Litter Bugs Tarnish Singapore's Clean Image

  Our founding father, the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew painstakingly cleaned up Singapore. However, many inconsiderate people seem to treat the public spaces as the dumping ground. Tissue papers, empty cans/bottles, cigarette butts/boxes can be spotted everywhere: void decks, car parks, bus stops, sidewalks, lifts, walkways, foot paths, grass turfs, etc. . Monkey see monkey do. I hope CCTV cameras can be installed to catch the culprits. Besides monetary fine, the litter bugs should be made to clean up the estate for a minimum period of 1 month so that potential litter bugs and the litter bugs themselves will know the consequences of littering. Getting the cleaners to clean up when solve the littering problem but making the culprits clean up will stop the problem permanently. There won't be any repeat offence. You only need to feature 1 litter bug cleaning up the estate in the news. It is more effective than trying to get the whole nation clean up the litters. You are sending the wrong message:" Litter more, the whole nation will help to clean up! " Getting the litter bugs clean up is the only way for Singapore to remain a truly clean and green country once again.

  It is hard on the cleaners as well.  Clean then littered again.

  The inconsiderate and irresponsible people know they won't be penalised because there aren't any one to catch them. That's why I propose having cctv camera. Besides catching litter bugs can also catch thief, hit and run cyclists, errant personal mobility device users.

  Litter bugs can litter 24 hours but cleaners can't clean 24 hours. Sometimes you have to feature 1 litter bug in the news doing the cleaning. Essentially applying the kill the chicken to frighten the monkey, in this case, mule.

  Many selfish people entertain such thought: not my home and I won't be cleaning. Yet Every National day sing "THIS IS MY COUNTRY, THIS IS MY HOME.." Next time they should sing "COUNT ON ME TO LITTER" .....
