thinking of getting a 2nd hand ball but really no idea to get which type.....Jae, you saw my style of playing and u think which kinda of ball is suitable to my playOriginally posted by jae:eh...wow...'guidence' this word a bit too strong lah, james...
anyway, hm, personally i think that most of us will agree that we need balls for different lane conditions, so that we can adapt better, and let the ball work, rather than making ourselves work. So i do recommend that you shortlist the kind of conditions that you will more frequently encounter, and get balls that suit that kind of condition, (but of cos, driller makes a difference to the reaction of the drilled ball too...)![]()
I bowled 14+ and 15+ and you bowled 19+... I think I'm the one that needs your guidance, my friendOriginally posted by jameskoh:thinking of getting a 2nd hand ball but really no idea to get which type.....Jae, you saw my style of playing and u think which kinda of ball is suitable to my play
if u dunno the reason to get a new ball.... most likely u do not need a new ballOriginally posted by jameskoh:Jae and Prataman
need yr guidance....after playing with u guys. u think i shld change ball??
hey bro, tat is my one and onli 19+ and is the first game. The rest of the game u got 14+ 15+ 16+ 18+ 18+ while me get onli 15+ 16+ 16+ 17+ 16+Originally posted by prataman:I bowled 14+ and 15+ and you bowled 19+... I think I'm the one that needs your guidance, my friend
i got wat u meant palOriginally posted by xKEGLERx:if u dunno the reason to get a new ball.... most likely u do not need a new ball
cheers!
nothing sacarstic here... hope u get what i mean
A coach told me this formula before...Originally posted by jameskoh:i got wat u meant palbut sometimes i feel my ball reaction is not as good as wat i saw other bowlers bowl. The Impact of the pin is not BANG type
thanks for your advice palOriginally posted by xKEGLERx:A coach told me this formula before...
Pin carry = ball mass + ball revolution + ball speed
i think this forumla is still not enough.... the way the bowler bowl affects too
and the ball drilling and type of ball use on the lane condition... im not saying u need 1 ball for each type of lane conditions... bowlers own adjustment is also very crucial... slight changes in your wrist movement will make a big difference on the lane...
Anyway... i ever been to lane condition that is really screwed up... u need house ball to play there...lol
Hope this helps... you could approach the alley's pro shop for reccomendation...but do beware that some may their to clear their old stock to u.... its up to u to believe it or not...
Cheers!
Yo Prata!!!Originally posted by prataman:Yo James,
Ever considered using 14 lbs?
A few advantages, such as:
- Heavier weight balls (14-16) normally use a different core than those 13 and below, even if it is the same ball. What I mean to say is, for example, a 14 lb Messenger Ti has a different core than a 13 lb Messenger Ti.
- These cores are definitely better than the 3 piece cores (pancake) that the lighter balls utilise, as they allow you to have many different reactions depending on which drilling pattern you utilise.
- Not to mention that a lot of us here use 14 lbs ball, you'd definitely have access to more avenues of 2nd hand equipment!!!!

ya trial and error is the best methodOriginally posted by xKEGLERx:Would love to meet up anyone here for a game or 2... but giving pointers im still not there yet...
Imho...there are not good or bad balls... every ball is there for a reason... for a range of lane condition... drillings will determine a more specific characteristic of a ball... perhaps u need to upgrade ur ball weight... 14pd and above should be enough...
I always believe "Trial and Error" method is the best way to learn bowling... if u dun try the ball...u will never know whether it suits u or not... this method is a money wasting one.... but very effective...
Cheers
agree to wat u say Prata....Originally posted by prataman:Hmmmm with regards to bowling balls, I think it's fair to say that most of us "casuals" up to "weekly league bowlers" or even "serious leisure bowlers" will only need 2..... 3 or up to max 4 balls.
Usually it consists of a ball for heavy oil, one for lights/mediums and 1 for sparing... Notice I don't say "1 particle ball for heavy oil, 1 pearl for dry lanes"... because every bowler bowls differently. If I have a high enough speed and no revs, I'd use even powerfully drilled solid reactives for my dry lane conditions. If I have a slow enough speed and high enough revs, even a mild pearlised ball may be too strong for me on wet conditions.
Why don't we all go out and own 10 balls? It's not only the $$ constraints, but there's not much point in owning 10 different bowling balls if you're not bowling in the high end tourneys. Unless you practice 10 games and like to have a different ball for each game .... trust me, I used to have freakin 4 balls in use, 5 more in the locker and 3 more to give away. But no use, it confused me only.
So now, take me for example, I'm using 3 balls to cover my range of conditions that I encounter. That's more than enough for a "serious leisure bowler". Hard to carry so many balls to leagues anyway .......
So it's vital to choose the correct balls to use FOR YOURSELF, but it's very difficult to say which ball is "best", because there's no such thing as a best ball. There's so many factors to take into consideration which makes a ball "good for you". Your drilling patterns, the lane conditions.... Believe me, even how the ball looks play a part in ball selection for a lot of people. Some bowlers simply "feel" better using a ball that they like the looks of. Some people just don't give a damn.
Lastly, but more importantly, how many people bowl the way you do? Your release, your revs, your speed, your reaction? Only you. How to find out which type of ball suits you best for each given condition? Trial and error lor...
Next discussion we'd probably end up sharing which equipment we have and why we use it... good for the newbies to learn too...
We know our style is one thing... how the ball want to react to your style and the lanes is a different thingOriginally posted by jameskoh:agree to wat u say Prata....
Onli we know our style!!! hahahaha
Yo James,Originally posted by jameskoh:ya my prayers are answer but dun know which one is good leh
thanks for yr advice, Jae and Prata.Originally posted by prataman:Yo James,
Just my opinion, for your particular conventional style and line you throw, I think you could make most balls work for you lah, no need to worry.
But seeing that you like to bowl down and in and you bowl in OCC/Grassroots ...... A solid reactive or particle may JUST react too early, given the dry nature of the outside boards. If you need length and still want some pop in the back.... perhaps a medium - strong pearlised reactive ball would be up your alley.
The only way to know more is to "fan" other people!Originally posted by jameskoh:thanks for yr advice, Jae and Prata.
maybe next bowling session, i will ask you more questions....
hope you will not be "fan" by me
