Team F.O.S. at Planet Bowl - Thrills and Spills

Picture this:
A bowler, bowling a clean game, and finishing with a more than decent score of 201 ... and yet STILL getting mauled to the tune of over 60 pins. That person is non other than Jae Tay.
Yes my friends, our unfortunate captain had the dubious honour of getting drubbed 201 - 269 in his 4th game last night.... so... HAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Sorry, couldn't resist.
3 weeks of the season have been completed, time for a quick update:
Points - Team has garnered 7, 17 and 6 points respectively for the 3 outings, for a total of 30 from a possible 60. Just passed! We should be in mid table.....
Team Scoring (Scr) each week - 2007, 2104 and 1974 for team totals resulting in team averages of 167.25, 175.33 and 164.5. (total team score divided by 12 games)
Team High Game - 586
Team Low Game - 456
Individual High Game - 211 (Kevin)
... Let's skip the low.....
Updated handicaps as follows:
Jae - 9
Hayden - 13
Steven - 11
Weixiang - 17
Kevin - 5
Michelle (F) - 15
David - 6
Ignatius - Not played
I'm plotting individual scoring charts too, to show people's scoring from week to week. But still early, not really interesting info obtained yet.... -

Looks like the CSC website has already been updated:
We are currently 7th of the league's 18 squads, slightly above "mid-table". Next week we face L C S Novena, who are currently in 15th place, 11 points behind us.
Still early days yet, but their best bowler currently has a handicap of 7. The rest of the bowlers have handicaps ranging from 13 to 22. Quite a bit to overcome! However, this represents a good chance to get valuable points.
Might be a good idea to utilise our bowlers who has a reasonable handicap as well to counter. Just a suggestion. -
Well folks! Next weeek is time to get valuable points before we set on a quest to face top two teams in the league! Lets try our best dudes and gal.....

so far 2 bowler i bowled against hit high scores of 260 and 269...maybe i'm the inspiration???
anyway, just wanna ask this:
does a bowler who sandbag so as to gain more handicap, weaker in mental strength, as compared to one who always bowl to his best effort? -
I think that there's no point to sandbag in leagues.
However This has no bearing on his mental abilities

Well to each individual to their style.... its definitely good to have a higher handicap, but its also good to play to our best potential! Picture this.....your opponent is hitting a 110 game....would you go all out to beat him flat by scoring a 200 game? Or juz beat him by 130 game and gain a higher handicap in view of maybe the next opponent will be a stronger player?

It really does depend. Of course you realise that if we all could average 200, we wouldn't worry about this anyway! Heh heh heh! BUT since we're not, up pops the issue.
For me, yes, I WOULD "sandbag", if you wish to call it that way, only in the last game, if required. So long as the following are more or less decided, that scoring a big heap extra would not change the outcome:
1) Team totals for the night
2) That particular team game
3) Your overall total against your opponent
4) Your current game against your opponent
I would not recommend 'sandbagging' in any other game except the last game. I never really need help missing on purpose anyway, since I am fully capable of missing easy spares on my own.... -

Just went into csc website. I seems to know the guy who shot the 269. I think he does coaching. Not sure if he is the one.
Next week opponent is spook demon. Think i know some of the guys there. They were in the yahoo groups. Last time was known as SBC (S'pore bowling corner). Think now call spook (spin+hook)

We all know the guy... Jae knows him much more than the rest of us, but the fella was my team mate in Silver Bowl and Eastside.
He's good and I've seen him do a bit of coaching after leagues at CSC.
Oh, not sure if the rest knows yet, welcome Deamon into our F.O.S. squad! A great addition! As Jae calls it "anchor material"
Anyway I've updated the spreadsheet on my end. Keep it going! -

i feel whether to sandbag or not is a bowler's personal decision, which i believe, will ultimately affect his/her mental game in the long run, which in turn will affect his/her scores...
just chatted with Michael, and he talked abt some of the bowlers doing obvious sandbaggings, like guttering for the first throws, (hm, well, if u'r as lousy as me, then no problem, but if u hit a 200+ game, then guttering a few first shot for the next few games...a bit obvious, rite?) therefore, hm, unprofessionalism in bowling too?
anyway, Mike's a definite a good example (for me) in terms of having a strong mentality to win, no matter who his opponent is. see if jae's anywhere close to him in a few yrs' time... -

The thrills and spills continue on the roller coaster ride of Team F.O.S.!!!
This evening was no exception, as we ran into one of the bigger guns of this league, the Spook Demons!
Fair dinkum! However, it has got to be said they did not put out their stronger players, as the likes of Tom How and Jerome Tan were absent from their lineup. Well, I sure ain't complaining.
Steven had a decent outing, outscoring his seriously overmatched opponent 4 - 1. At first it seemed daunting to having to overcome a 14 pin handicap deficit, but Steven handled it well.
Jae would be the first to agree that he was unable to get his engine started all night long, and eventually fumbled to a 1 - 4 outing at the hands of his consistent spinner opponent. Better days ahead, I'm sure.
Thanks to several fluky hits, I was able to score enough against my opponent and barely pipped the overall which went down to the last few frames of the night!! 4 - 1 the scoreline.
Interestingly, we only got 1.5 points from the 4 team games and overall score, despite winning 7 out of the 12 games on offer.
We ended up with 10.5 points for the night.
We now have obtained 55 points from 5 league outings, or an average of 11 per night. That looks to be severely challenged as we face the juggernaut LETAC GALLERY next week. I won't be playing, but good luck to those that will.
Will deliver an update of the stats (average, etc) once we have completed next week's match. -

Well next week against Lectac will be a stern test for ourselves!Will certainly try to be there to support!
Miss our team show today as was at Grassroot Club to witness Wx's back on form after he got a new ball from Razali! Time to see Wx's PEAK soon!
Juz a point, Wx is going to Thailand next Thursday for a tourney and wish him all the best and bring home a trophy! -
