to make it look like new hor...it realli depends lor...minor stuff u can do is bring down to a pro shop ask them sand + polish.. 10 bucks i guess...or realli beyond hope go recon lor

Actually you are mistaken, if you were to put your ball at the same rack as them, You'll know that yours is just about the same, however, if your original ball is sheen finish, then forget it.
Btw balls are either polished or sheen in there finishing as part of there characteristics, however most of them can be easily altered.
Looks does not mean much, its about how you can control your ball. Some ppl like theirs polished for length and some like it sheen (matt) for better control. It all about the condition of the lanes.
I personally sometimes do clean my ball on my own, but hardly do it nowadays. There are ball cleaners available in the pro-shop. Cream cleaners are my favourite cos like you mention, it will clean and shine up the ball slightly. And there is the usual cleaners, solvent based for surface cleaning. The cleaners are just to remove grit and oil from the ball and hopefully keep the ball's characteristics.

hmm... i'm just a recreational casual bowler but this is what i think is "new ball syndrome"...
one of my friends had a new one.. he was so preoccupied and afraid he'd scratch the ball or the machine returning it (still dunno what it's called) will damage it, he bowled the worst score of his life! he didn't even make 90!
after a few weeks, when the ball was scratched and stuff, he was back to his usual self...

Here's some info for raindrpo. It is not advisable to polish or sand your ball too often.This not only spoils the coverstock, it also causes the abll to shrink and warp. Trust me, as crazy as it sound,...its true.
Don't worry too much about the scratches. What you do wanna do is remove the lane dirt. Use water and a clean cloth to remove the dirt. If the dirt is really stubborn, and won't come off, use 2 parts water and 2 drops of lighter fluid...or ball cleaning solution. Make sure the ball-cleaning solution is non-abrasive.
Lastly, if you REALLY cannot tahan the dirt, than put the ball on a ball spinner and use a cloth and water to get rid of the dirt. Moreoever, you could use polish or ball cleaner, depending on the condition of the ball.
The recommended frequency for polishing your ball is once every 30+ games or so. Seriously........

Eh but seriously, nail polish remover is damn effective, all the dirt and grime comes off like anything. Mike recommended... i was like how amazed at the amount of sai a few drops managed to remove.
Don't know if it has adverse effects on the coverstock... hope not.

I think it wears off a thin layer off the surface too.
Not so sure, because balls that arent very shiny, tend to become dull after u use the nail polish. Coverstock absorb the remover? And then some chemical reaction??
Anyway, its very effective...i agree. I like to use it first on the dirt, then use the ball cleaner, then finish off with a damp cloth then wipe dry. -
nail polish remover dulls the surface slightly if left too long on the surface. best is to use the car polishing cloth to apply, then an absorbant cloth to wipe it off fast.
another thing, to make the ball 'like new', the correct term is reconditioning. but a ball's life span is like 3 recons and thats it, have to look for another ball after that. what recon does is to take away the more minor scratches, therefore thinning the coverstock.
and, if an alley gives u many scratches after bowling, probably that place isnt good to bowl. the lane surface or gutter or ball return may be causing those scratches. minor nicks and scratches are probably ok once in a while, but if you see it happening everytime u bowl at a particular alley, its time to switch places. otherwise, u're gonna end up with a really scarred ball. -

well, scratches on my ball, i have.
in fact, 2 deep scratches, 3 deep chipoffs...on my SZ, at Classic.
Guess that says alot doesn't it.
Sometimes your ball jumps out of the ball returning machine so loud you hear a bang.
Thats a heartbreaker if you are using a new ball.
So ian, u've seen the condition of my ball...should I go for reconditioning...? or what? -
its up to you..i myself seldom recon my balls. maybe thats y i get more pin 10s. i usually just shine it up unless i find the scratches are deep on my track.
