Brunsick all the way.
Reasons: good long lasting coverstocks. superior cores.
fav balls: DangerZone, and the RAging Red FuZe.
however, for times of desperation, when i need a ureathane ball...
Columbia.
The U dot works well for me(as a strikeball). had a good run wif the SeaWolf also. -
As for me, i've been using Columbia300, and i really like the older series, esp the Beast. The new balls doesn't seem to have really 'attractive' and 'power' names like the old ones, and the coverstock seems to wear out much faster...
Brunswick is my other preference, esp the Monster series (though i only have the ScreamR, but reviews from senior bowlers for the rest of the series are great!) ...
haven't tried other manufacturers, except for Ebonite... -
I have been using the ShockZone Pro, and now Complete Chaos.
I like what the Complete Chaos has been giving me, and I'm willing to go for another ball similar to the Complete Chaos.
I'm also a Brunswick fan, and want to try SmashR, and Inferno.
But no money.... -
Well, most of you will know I'm mainly an Ebonite fan, although I have dabbled in other makes (esp Storm and now Hammer) too, with the exception of Brunswick. Just a teeny bit of Columbia and Track.
Have tried many from Ebonite, be it Gemstone, Optyx, Matrix, Savage, Vortex., Apex or whatever, but the best balls from their line that worked for me were the black/silver Matrix Trimax, and of course, my ever present reliable Clear Werewolf.
However, the ball that actually worked best for me overall is the original Trauma from Storm. Gave me my high game, high series for over 3 gms, 4 gms and 10 gms. I'll have to give that my best ball used award.
Now gonna try even more of Storm and Hammer.

Tried a columbia messenger and a bluedot. Also tried two storm balls. Going to try a brunswick ball soon. Haha! Comparing what I have, think the messenger cover last longer than my storm tour power.
Interested to try ebonite balls. Was thinking if there are any unique difference between brands. Is it only personal preference, made you play with what you select?
Hmm...I know people that strikes with TRACK, STORM, COLUMBIA300, EBONITE. Havent seen anyone here using something from dynothane, Nuline, etc. Wondering how are those balls.
Nike manufactures golf balls, soccer balls, basketballs, baseballs. Wondering if they will branched into bowling balls also. NIKE Air...ball?? -
I've used quite a few brands... Hmmmm... Columbia300 used to be my fav and I love my surge and Msg ti. And also my Pulse. Now I'm currently using a Storm Trauma ER and its my first storm ball and I"m quite impressed by it.
And I'm trying out Quantum balls which seems to be working on certain lanes conditions.
Used a Ebonite Gemstone B4 and a Wolf. But not quite fall into my catergory of liking....
Got a Track Ball Enforcer but not drilled yet.... Hope to try it out in near future. ,... -
Every manufacturer has claims to "unique" core designs or whatnots... But I think the only company that is able to claim that is probably Mo-Rich. There is one other company out there with very different core designs, but is not as popular. Forgot which one.
Everyone else has the same basic designs they just copy from others. The only difference is the cover/core match.
I will always love Columbia because no other brand's coverstocks take so equally well to either shining or sanding. For plain versatility, this company wins handsdown.
Currently, I use Track and I like what I have. They roll well and match coverstocks well with the cores. I have encountered very little problems with energy management with Track equipment, all other factors being equal.
I would love to try Mo-Rich and Ebonite's offerings, but they specialise in asymmetric cores. So i'm out of luck there, since the only reason I wanted to try them was for their innovative core designs, especially Mo-Rich's (Ebonite's coverstocks don't impress me).

but asymmetrical cores give a more even hitting power aint it so?
ur ball can hit the pins at any point and still get the results, making it more forgiving.
anyway, just tried a new drilling the coaches and drillers in sg are just learning or seeing for themselves.
the span is relaxed abit more (about 1/8.) the fingerhole is widened and it isnt smoothened out much. the angle of the pitch is inwards allowing for the fingers to stay in longer and the ball to sit in the palm more. however, the moment u squeeze or force the ball... wham, ur fingers are gonna hurt.
i had very hurt fingers last nite lol...
interestingly, even for a very relaxed shot, the rev imparted is very good. and when i can get it right, a more under the ball shot revs are way better than wat i can get normally. at least thats wat i tink. -

Deamon remarked the other day to me that Brunswick does not make balls with asymmetrical cores, according to some Billy Orliwinski (can't spell his name), a dude who gave a seminar at Tampines Safra recently.
Isn't that odd? I was thinking about it and realised that Columbia also doesn't really make balls with asymmetrical cores.
Seems like Ebonite (Hammer), Storm and Track are the real culprits in the Mass Bias/Asymmetrical core ballyhoo. I'm talking high end equipment of course, since asymmetrical cores don't show up in mid range ball designs.
I'll cut Lane 1, Visionary, Dynothane and Mo Rich from the conversation, since they aren't readily available to us anyway (recently AMF too). I'm also not very knowledgable on Rotogrip and Nu Line, so can't really comment. -

The guy's name is Billy Orlikowski. Hehe i got autograph from him too. According to him, brunswick dun make mass bias cos it has something to do with locating the cg as well as the drilling patterns. I dun how to write in words, but when he was there explaining, i know what he meant. Also, by adding another piece of inner core "elsewhere" and selling for US$200++ does not make any economical sense. Thus brunswick rather go for designs w/o mass bias and selling them for US$175.
Probably in singapore, brunswick balls are going at quite a high price. This is partly becos the dristributer jack the price up. Ask any pro-shops(at least me and prata regular driller agree on this) and see if they agree or not.
lastly from the seminar, i had a good look of the brunswick fractory. not pictures but videos clips. They show how they make a easy polyester ball to the more complicated high-end ball. On average, the high-end ball take a week to manufacture and more than 50% of the time is spent on curing! and when it comes to curing quality, there's no way they can hurry it. -

Not bevelling the edges of thumb or finger holes is the common way to "teach" a bowler not to squeeze. My brother has been using sharp edges on his ball for years. Ultimately, the aim is to switch back to bevelled edges unless one gets so used to it that they stay that way. Some pros have grips that are naturally like this, though their names escape me now.
Back to this thread's topic: Brunswick and Columbia indeed do not make balls with asymmetrical cores. If Columbia does make any (though none springs to mind now), those are probably rare forays into that market. But as far as I can backdate, i do not know of any Brunswick's that have a mass bias centre.
Track bowling was for a long time a similar company - specialising in a range of very good balls without asymmetrical cores. Then they tried it once with the EMB (elliptical mass bias) ball and the response was so good, EMB because a series of balls. Since then, I think only the Freak series (designed my Mo Pinel of Mo-Rich) has such aggressive cores.
Other from those two, Track is a "normal" ball making company. -

But anyway my fave brand has got to be EBONITE!!!
Reason simply being that they are one of the few maunfacturers that specifically design and produce balls for spinners like me....
My best ball award has got to be my Ebonite Timberwolf. Gave me my PB, is extremely verstaile and lasts like hell!!
Still as much impact as 3 years ago when i first used it.... even after 2 re-cons!!
Did try others like the Columbia Red Boss, like it and went on to Ti Boss which kinda disappointed me. Has a Track Triton Elite which was pretty good in the sense that it was verstile but never did give me the correct impact and reaction....
So now... I'm a DIEHARD EBONITE fan!!! -

I have tried a couple of balls from Shadow/R, Defense Zone, Attitude III, Deep Danger Zone, Super Cuda/C, Tremor, Extreme Chaos, Complete Chaos, Phatom, Cuda/C 2000 and not too mention my only 2 plastic, a pink maxim (rare )
and a blue dot.
With the amount revs I put into the balls, I realised that zone is not for me. But still I am keen to try another zone with a very weak drilling.
I love my 2 cudas. Very good. However it was my chaos that stole the limelight, managed to get my high games from them. The Extreme had since experienced the TEC death......
However my high series still comes from my cuda/c 2000 at the moment.
Hope I can get a hold of the original cuda/c.
Would like to try storm and ebonite someday.

All 4 of my balls are Columbian. Always thought that they looked the best, i guess. But i always had this nagging suspicion that investing solely on one brand will have it's drawbacks. I agree with harmzuay when he said that Columbia's coverstocks are versatile, useful for manipulation.
Recently, i've been getting feedback that the coverstocks don't last as long as other makes... not that i can tell; i have nothing to compare to. But diversification usually lowers risks, so unless Columbia has a very strong case, my next ball will probably be something else. -

Today's Brunswick balls are no longer so one-dimensional. There aren't any Zones anymore, but you may like to try out the Fuze line that replaced them. -

i think it will hook alot for u...
personally, i think its for a med to heavy oiling, mid length and not so much of a skid-snap. but i think its for med to high rev bowlers...
for me, or those with less rev, i think can achieve controlled hook. Sort of stroker style...
