In 10-15 years time......

Hi ppl, today woke up, somehow feeling ok, but was looking thru the papers when there is an article abt old age and being single....sudenly mademe wonder.....
In 10-15 years, most of our current pro-shop drillers would have retired....so how are we going to continue drilling our ball?
But then again how many of us will be drilling by then? How many new and young drillers in our sunny isle do we have now? Dun think got few decent numbers.....
Or perhpas, we can the ones to replace these aging drillers? hehe
Oh well, one of my morning blues again....

well, to tell you the truth, i am not up to being a driller. so i guess i have to hope Sam is gonna be around for awhile more. the younger drillers i see now are kinda.... doubtful.

I don't think so as it seems that with more younger bowlers taking up bowling in Primary Sch, Sec sch, Poly...... business of Pro-shop would be better.
Think drillers in Cathay alleys where they offer beginners packages to school will benefit the most True or not we can ask the owners we know

unless new ways are created to do the old job, and if it does better, the old job will still be in.

New ways ... hmmm... like a recognised course for drillers. Professional cert of drilling... Masters of bowling ball drilling, degree, diplomas and maybe set up an institute of bowling

there isn't going to be huge amount of takers if there is any such course available. But aspired drillers who want to learn more about drilling should go to the US to pick up the trade. It is a never-dying business there.
Drilling is an art, so there is going to be loads of work if one is to become one. But being a proshop owner doesn't guarantee you profit every year. The propects of working in a high rise building drawing a fixed pay is a more ideal solution ppl tend to picture. Besides, not many enthusiastic bowlers become drillers in the end.
In 10 yrs ~15yrs time, some of us might not even be bowling already. If we still are, where we going to drill the ball will be like how we found our first perfect driller...or by recommendations from ur curent bowler. I'm hopeful that if I continue to bowl after 10-15yrs time, I would have found a replacement driller unless Sam retires. So no worries mate...! -
there are courses in drilling. in fact u have to be certified in order to start a shop. after all, which company wans to let a pro shop owner who doesnt know how to drill to sell its balls?
dun worry P1, i know enuff of ball drilling to do a pretty mediocre job. we can all take over Sam and start our own shop. -
i used to do technical so i know how to handle the drilling machine. that's about it.
if gimme drill, i drill the balance hole and thumb hole right thru....so one side is thumb hole, the other side is balance with. in between is hollow.
by the way, in 10~15 yrs time.....we would be 40 yrs old.
sheesh...........that's OLD. -

We can go play lawn bowling when we are 40+ if we really cannot find someone to do the drilling of our bowling balls

Hehe, think abt it this way, in a decade time, when the drillers have retired, it may be a good idea to drill ball for ppl. Maybe it would be a profitable one in the short, as we are replacing the alrady shortage of drillers. As for long term, don't think so....
Probably, the younger generation of driller,i would say, include remy ong. But he is so busy with his national duties. Apart from him, dun really any young drillers. Perhaps, after all, we all have seen how unprofitable the biz is..... -
Don't forget the pro shop "Vertex Sport" in OCC, run by Jensen Lim. He's one of the rare IBPSIA accredited ball drillers in Singapore.
Furthermore, he's only 23 this year and has already been in the pro shop business for 7 years. A rare find. Great respect for him I have. -

Maybe can buy 10 balls and ask Uncle Sam to drill now and keep for future use!
I do agree that life is unpredictable.....so I guess i will write out my will for my allocation of bowling balls in case....

eh... as mentioned b4, i dun tink the young guns are good drillers. sure they all can bore a hole, but their fittings are wayyyyy below par. hope they brush up, coz it doesnt seem as if they are doing it.
