3M tape - what is the exact type?

hey SIMers, what is the 3M tape that coach recommended to us?
was it plastic? I know its not vinyl electric tape.
definitely not scotchtape, or mounting tape or masking tape..
wat tape?!?! -
it's 'xx and decorative' tape...but forgot what xx is liao...
anyway, harmzuay, chuanish and me are using the 3M vinyl electrical tape, it's working well.

I have that type, but its no longer manufactured or maybe sold in singapore. Its known as 3M plastic tape. A small roll cost me abt $5 and i bought that abt 2 years back.
The texture is similiar to the black non-slip tape which u see in pro-shop. Hence it is good for putting on the behind of yr thumbhole.The normal PVC tape has a glossy look which is supposed to make the tape waterproof, hence u get a lot of grip on such tape. But too much grip=late release of thumb. I normally use the PVC tape when my thumb shrink, whcich is the early stages of the game. -

so the tape put on the back of thumbhole or the gripping part of the thumb hole?
cos i figured i might use it on the early parts of my game. -
I dun know about u all, but the 3M tape I used, (from deamon) slips out of the hole. It didnt stick to the hole tight enough, slips out after some games. Might be due to inproper sticking on my part. Anyway, I prefer the thumb tape found in the proshops, those with one end rounded.

The one Thomas recommended is the 3M Repair and Decorative Tape. Can't find.
The key factor in deciding what tape to use, is that it doesn't leave a sticky residue after removal. We all know what a stuck thumb can do to your release, let alone a sticky one.
I stick mine on the nail side of the thumb hole, number of layers vary. Like at SIM/NUS, started with 7 pieces, then gradually removed them as the number of games advanced.
Sometimes, i don't use tape at all. -
That black tape......i oso have the same prob. cheap stuff, that's why not lasting. The PVC tape, which has a glossy look, i use it in the early stages when my thumb shrink a lot. I paste in the front og the thumbhole towards the fingers. As it has a waterproof surface, hence it gives a lot of grip. After my thumb has swell, then change to my 3M tape.Originally posted by Player1:early stages??

The 3M tape has a matte surface, so it is better to put behind the thumbhole, to fill up the excess space bet yr thumb and the thumbhole. Never put in the front as it will cause u to slip out too much. In fact, the texture is similiar to the plastic black tape which u see in pro-shop
The disadv of those black tapes, as well as the white rough tapes seen in pro shop is that it left a residue behind. So, what i normally do is i put the pvc tape in first and followed by the white tape, and this help me to peel off the tape faster. The white rough tape is used when i want a grip that is between the PVC and the smooth one of 3M.
These days, i hardly put on tapes liao. All thnks to mr James Shi who drill my thumbhole such that it fits snugly -
well, here's something very stupid. about me...
I was going to test the PVC tape on my ball by fitting here and there and see which way of putting tape works.
Then I discovered that my ball ard the finger inserts area cracked.
Sigh..
So I use the tape to tape up the area where it has cracked. I can't repair it or I won't be able to play in the tournament.

So, I'll tape it first, after tourney then send for repair.

Guide to Proper insertion of tape.
Firstly, dry the area in the hole.
second, clean it the best you can.
third, insert the tape using scissors or the proper insertion tool.
not recommended for other forms of insertion. may cause pain and distress. -

I always tried to stick the tapes deeper and deeper inside, if i am adding tapes. This faciliates removing; u can easily pick out the topmost piece as there's a "mouth", reduces the possibility of removing a few pieces at once.
Pour water in thumb hole after removal of everything and soak it for couple of hours. Aids removing of residues.
not recommended for other forms of removal. may cause pain and distress. -
if u do want to use more than 2 layers of tape, u may want to taper them, as mentioned above. tim mack and robert smith both use tapered tape stickings.
it seems to work for some. but i dun use tapes much.
also, if u do use the black tape they sell at the pro shops ( low quality expensive shitty stuff) they have a tendency to leave residue on the surface they stick on. u may want to use the 3mm tape as the 1st layer then stick on that black tape afterwards. -
Latest update: Ace Hardware(something like that) in Novena does sell the 3M REPAIR & DECORATIVE TAPE. u guys may wanna check it out.

actually they are trick into buying an usless island with oni sand....and the company itself oni sell glue at tat time..that brainstorm abit and decided to glue the sand to paper..and wala!!! u got sandpaper....
