Whether or not to get your personal equipment is mainly determined by your long-term goal. Are you playing just for fun and recreation? Or are you interested in picking the sport up on a regular basis? Please don't get me wrong here, i don't mean to say that you only get your gear if you want to compete. The fact is, many people in this forum are recreation bowlers too. The difference is, we love bowling and wish to do as well in the sport as we enjoy the fun we share.

Back to the question: if you only bowl when you go out with friends or the like, then save on the gear. If you're interested in learning the game, then personally i don't think gear can come too early.

There are some who believe that money shouldn't be wasted until one's foundations are laid. But i prefer to think that it's far better to spend a little for personal equipment before picking up any unnecessary 'bad' habits. As we all know, bad habits are far more difficult to kick once ingrained. And personal equipment fits far better than house gear, especially the ball - a well-fitted ball could mean you can play 2 pounds heavier!
If you wish, i'd always recommend Walter Tan of Marina Superbowl. He does my gear and i've only good things to speak of him.
Good luck with your decision, and tell us how it goes!!
