Thks so much for your reply. Was tempted to put tracer after seeing Wu Fu Long's ball spinning in action on TV. His Ninja Fury ball does have 2 tracers when he played to win the Taiwan Tour 1999. How did he put tracers on while keeping his ball legal for the tour is my question now? I was told by a Spinning Champion, okay it was YC Ma again that the only legal way is to use a type of chemical to etch the tracer mark as stickers are definitely not legal. Hope to get more advice again.Originally posted by Ian:the question is...y need a tracer?
anyway, to answer you, there is no 'legal' way to put a tracer in competitions.
some pple have tried niching a hole in the ball and filled it wif colored resin to act as a tracer, but i personally find it ridiculous.
the method u described, ie; chemical on ball, is also illegal. there is to be no foreign substances on the ball while bowling.
maybe harmyzuay would get that legit parts corrected for me.
Oh, I see. Thanks for the info.Originally posted by harmzuay:It is not legal to mark one's ball with anything during tourneys sanctioned by world tenpin bowling rules. Heavy ball bowlers too have to remove any sort of tapes they place on the outside of the ball to observe ball reaction.
The reason markers are allowed in the ABT is because the ABT is not governed by the full set of rules. If they were, the taiwanese spinners would be disqualified for using scotchbrite pads to scuff their balls during matchplay.
As for the full set of rules, I think Jae has a book. Or we can just search on the web.
You know the green (can be other colour) pad that sometimes you use to scrub kitchen utensils, sink, etc? The rough rough type of pad, a bit wiry wiry type. People do use that to alter ball surface. To roughen it up, normally. They use the term "scuff".Originally posted by Asiaspin:What is scotch pad?

During the ABT in one of the legs, I can't remember which one, the taiwanese spinner (I think was Hsieh Yu Ping) "hid" a pad in his cloth to scrub it during match play to alter the ball surface! He eventually won, but the opposition player complained about it, rightly so. However, the result stood.
Interesting info, prataman, thnks. Pardon me for my ignorance. By roughening the contact surface of the ball, Does it make the ball back up more for TaiPei spinner shot? I notice for that particular spinner you mentioned, his ball does backed up a lot in the Malaysia leg, a title he sucessfully defended. Is it legal to have 3 spinners ball roughening to various degree during competition so that the spinner need not do the roughening at the time of competing?Originally posted by prataman:You know the green (can be other colour) pad that sometimes you use to scrub kitchen utensils, sink, etc? Take care dude & drink more fluidOriginally posted by Ian:from wat i know, even spinners need that grip on the lanes that causes the backup or tiny hook. it brings more pin action than just simply whacking the ball straight into the pocket. if it is too oily, and the ball doesnt grip, the common pin that stands is the pin 5, bcoz the ball simply deflects away from the pin after hitting either the 1-2 or 1-3.
to illustrate this, tink of your sleeper pins, righties pins 3 and 9 lefties pin 2 and 8. if u play hook, and you send the ball abit too far out, and it comes back weak, u will manage only the front pin. the rear pin will just stand there and laugh, bcoz the ball juz wun grip and carry on to pick up the rear pin.imagine that to be pin 1 and 5, now add and extra pin 2 or 3 ( depending on which pocket) same logic applies. and now there is an extra pin to contend wif.
comprehendo?
ps: sick wif fever so dunnoe if i even make sense here...
I think spinners are advantageous on oily lane but even better if the lane conditions are bad. I read that Tseng Su Feng won her AMF world title in Egypt where the lanes were bulit on the open desert facing the Spinx. Winds blow the sand on the lanes all the time and make the lanes unpredictable. For spinners, lanes condition affect them lesser, they can get more consistent scores throughout. But for hook players, they have a much greater problem to deal with.Originally posted by Player1:Why dull the ball during the game anyway?
Even when lane conditions are too oily, most pros can change release, or line adjustment don't they?
All in all, a spinner would prefer oily lanes right?
...er...i think.......
Sorry but the desert lanes were built just for the step ladder and dismantle shortly after the matches. Yeah in bad lanes, that's where the Taipei spinner style was developed. So in bad lanes the Taipei spinners will rule.Originally posted by Ding:woah... would like to witness this egyptian bowling alley for myself Maybe have a few games there while I'm at it
I agree that spinners(compared to Hook bowlers) will have a higher score on badly maintained lanes.

It was commented by her team mate, Chou Meow Lin that Tseng although talented put in a lot of effort to reach where she was in bowling. Chou, said of Tseng, "she will practice and practice even though her stamina may not allow her long training session. So, who say bowing or spinner is easy, but with practice we can all be at least quite good.
[Btw, it's sad... but Miss Tseng Su Feng has taken her own life last year. There was a tribute to her on the ABT grandslam finals.[/b]
