ok guys, we have engaged a bowling coach for the sch trainings.
his name is Thomas Fox and he's wif the national youth squad as a coach. prior to that, he has been coaching youth teams in sg for a long time, though full time just recently. i wun put his credentials here, and let u guys judge how good he is. i tink he's great and those who need more technical aspects of the game will benefit greatly, and his reading of the lanes is wayyyy superior to many coaches i know.
fees are $7 per session(about 2 hrs), not including games. (or rather, lane usage) which will bring it up to about 15 per seesion. needless to say, the more the less. (more pple, less cost per bowler)
dun be worried by too many pple and only one coach, he has agreed to take in another coach to help out if the response is good.
venue : too be confirmed. kim seng or chevrons probably. will decide atfer i find out which one offers us a better rate.
time? : thurs or fridays. afternoon from 3?-5? to be confirmed by us. he has kept the slot for us.
pls post ur feelings/ place in this limited space team offer now to aviod dissapointment. we need a rough gauge of how many pple are committed.

The deal sounds reasonable.
I like chevrons bt its goin to be very siong for the easterners sia unless we can leave the balls there or at least it has to be after class.
Maybe some info on the lane conditions for kim seng too. Otherwise, count me in and of course you shd know who else are onz.

Sounds fantastic to be able to finally start training proper. It'll be great if we're able to leave gear there, it's no joke to travel from the east with all that luggage.
Wherever the venue's gonna be, i hope the lane conditions will be challenging, i.e. un-victor's like. -
erm..i doubt u can leave balls and stuff there... since Fox isnt part of the centre personnel, lets try to work out something.
anyway Chuan... u will get ur wish if we train at kimseng. those are the most #$#@ lanes besides our unhookable Vision lanes. training there will defineatly train ur patience as well. -
i've spoken to some of the yr 1s and their free days do fall on thurs and fri. i'm ons for it.

Titan: Kimseng's lanes(& heavier pins) is sure challenging. Lane condition throughout your games(especially if u'r a hook ball player) will be ever changing, drier & drier & drier
Guess Chevrons' nearer to school(for those with classes on that day) & atmospheres' better too(brighter & better deco). Went to Kimseng recently but didn't bowl. Management's changed but I think the lanes & pins remain. Dim lightings(but brighter than before). Got billiard/pools,pub/karaoke & even foot massage

What sia. One (Kim Seng) is too poor to afford oil and the other (Vision) has too much to spare huh? Can someone intro Kim Seng's management to Vision's to get some oil for them?

i wun say kim seng is dry.. is more... erm..complicated oiling patterns thats all. coupled wif a carried down backend usually... not too sure though.

the cost of lanes at star bowl (kimseng) is 14 per hour. so assuming 16 bowlers join, we pay 17.5 per session for 2 hours. thats the best price i can get. hopefully we can start training next week(this week if we are fast) if all is well on our side. all in favour...just turn up k?

needless to say... more pple=less cost. i hope more pple turn up since we have ourselves a good coach finally, but more importantly, we wun wanna lose a coach of this calibre by having poor attendence. imagine only 5 pple turning up. enuff said. i hope all that is past and behind us. lets go train and win us some medals! -
17.5 a session is really steep man.
i believe it might put off some especially the newbies, not knowing how is it worth paying that much.
Did we check out the rates for chevrons? Dun mind travelling a bit further if the difference in cost is significant.

Actually, $17.50's quite a reasonable quote for someone like Uncle Thomas...esp when he's willing to coach us for $7 per pax...
but still, (not to make things difficult for you, Ian...) is there any other venues to consider, maybe Victor's, whereby the cost of lanes may be reduced?? -

Yay...!!! Got coach liao... but got 2 pay ??? booo.... haha... joking lah... but KIM SENG ?!?!?!?! So far from School n ppl who dun drive nor ride...(unlike us), nedd 2 change & change & change the freeking bus jus 2 get there leh. WHEREAS, if it was held at CHEVRONS, its a whole new issue. near school, taking a cab is also way cheaper THAN KIM SENGGggggg... U know... dun u agree ??? Even the toilet is cleaner n nicer carparking lots 2.

$17.50 not ex lah. It's reasonable. I am not sure who Mr Fox is but from what I hear, you guys will benefit greatly from his expetise.

haha... anyway. But the lanes r better. smoke free air-con... ermm ermm...cleaner lanes so the ball dun come out dirty, like sometimes u get dis sticky sticky stuff smeared all over the ball right? U know ??? and... and... and... the newer lanes r less scratchy. and... and... and...
Aiyah. Just Dun Go 2 Kim Seng lah. the lanes there is jus sucky lah. i bowled 4 quite sometime liao right,never has any1 mentioned any good from the lanes. only complaints.i'm serious. not the ball has been seriously scratched / damaged or the lanes r lousy.maybe becoz of their scores but nevermind tt i've played there a couple of times already. the more u play e more pek chek u'll get.
The lanes there r nothing like the other lanes found scattered all over our little island. so training there will only prepare us 4 that particular bowling centre.cos it's so dry, big HOOKERS like IAN our Ex-President, will need 2 bowl from the adjacent lane...even beginners can send the ball out and it will definately come back.so i sure u can guess the result when playing anywhere else if we were 2 train there... -

Hi seven, just go and train lah, there is no perfection in everything. I'm sure ian n company had a lot of trouble arranging these sessions for SIM.

Not to say that uncle Thomas is not worth that money..of course $7 is reaonable for a good coach but it is the rates of the alley.
Lane conditions n environment can be an important factor as well.
After hearing so much negative comments about the lanes there, cant help to think its better at chevrons. At least most of us have been there to tell it is a nice place to bowl at. As i've said, unless the rates there is much much more. No harm checking up the rates at chevron first (dunno if that's aredi been done).
Or since the lanes has aredi been booked for kim seng, we can try bowling there next week then we shall discuss abt it after the session to determine whether we need a better training ground.
Not to forget to thank Ian for all the effort to get us a reputable coach and training ground. -
