What's the weight of your ball now? If it's 11lbs and below, getting a 12lb is definitely worth it (assuming you can handle it). 11lb balls use a different core from their heavier cousins, because the parameters of the materials in the core doesn't allow the cores to be made below a certain weight. : Lighter balls have a weaker core. 11lbs and below get a round core with a pancake weightblock - ala Columbia WhiteDot; 12 - 13lbs get the same shaped core as the best heaviest design, but often without the proper flip/arc/flare blocks attached to the ends; 14 - 16lbs get the "Full Monty".
So, here's a word to all out there: Always use the heaviest ball you can manage without sacrificing too much ball speed and hand action (there is necessarily a mild reduction as you switch up, but that's only natural).
