NUS Bowling Classic 2001-2002
Date: 28th February – 1st March 2002
Venue: Cathay Bowl The Chevrons
Entry Fee: Singles Event: $24
Doubles Event: $13 (per bowler)
Quartet Event: $13 (per bowler)
The entry fee for bowlers entering all 3 events is $50.
RULES & REGULATIONS
1. Eligibility
This competition is open to all currently matriculated students of NUS, NTU, SIM and SMU.
2. Format of Play
Singles Event (27th Feb 2002 – AM)
There are 2 categories – Men and Ladies.
Each bowler will bowl 6 games and the scratch score will determine the top 8 males and top 5 females.
Doubles Event (27th Feb 2002 – PM)
Bowlers will form teams of two, bowling 4 games each. Teams may be form with mixed genders; however, there should not be a team of doubles with each bowler from different institutions. Ladies will be given Handicap points per game according to their performance in the Singles Event (please refer to Ladies Handicap for details). Total pinfalls of the doubles (including Handicap) will determine the top 4 Double Teams.
Quartet Event (28th Feb 2002 – AM)
Bowlers will form teams of four, bowling 4 games each. There is no restriction in the number of males and females in the Quartet team; however, there should not be a mixed team from different institutions. Ladies will be given handicap points for each game with reference to their performance in the Singles Event. Total pinfalls of the 4 bowlers (including Handicap) will determine the top 3 Quartet Teams.
2. Step- Ladder Finals (28th Feb 2002 – PM)
The total pinfalls of all the 3 events (including Handicap) will determine the top 5 bowlers to qualify for the Step-Ladder Finals.
Match 1: 5th in position will play with 4th position over 1 game. Winner will proceed on.
Match 2: Match 1 Winner will play with 3rd position over 1 game. Winner will proceed on.
Match 3: Match 2 Winner will play with 2nd position over 1 game. Winner will proceed on.
Match 4: Match 3 Winner will play with 1st position over 1 game.
* In the event that the Match 3 Winner wins Match 4, another game will be played and the winner will be declared the Champion.
Each match will be played on a different lane. The bowler that is being challenged, i.e., in Match 1, 4th position will have the right to decide who goes first. The lead-off bowler will bowl a frame first and subsequently, 2 frames will be bowled, ending the game with the lead-off bowler playing the last frame. Ladies Handicap will be added to their scratch score in the Step-Ladder Finals.
3. Tie- Breaking
In the case of a tie for any events, or for Step-Ladder qualifying pinfalls, the bowler with the highest high game shall win the tiebreaker. Ladies Handicap will be added in all the events except the Singles Event. If this still ends in a tie, the next high game will be used and so forth until the tie is broken. In the event of a tie in the Step-Ladder Finals, the 9th and 10th frame will be played again and repeated until the tie is broken.
4. Bowling on the Wrong Lane
When a bowler has bowled on the wrong lane and the error is discovered before another bowler has bowled, a dead ball is declared and the bowler will be required to rebowl that frame on the correct lane. When a bowler has bowled on the wrong lane and the next bowler has bowled without discovering the error, the game shall be completed with bowlers bowling on correct lanes without adjustments.
In the Step-Ladder Finals where the bowler normally bowls 2 frames each time and the bowler bowls on the wrong lane, a dead ball shall be declared and the bowler is required to rebowl both frames on the correct lane provided the error is discovered prior to the opponent making a legal delivery.
5. Tardy Bowlers
In the event of tardy bowlers (late-comers) in any event, he/she is permitted to join in the game if the other bowlers in the lane have no started bowling the 4th frame and can bowl the previous frames. However, if the other bowlers in the lane have started on the 4th frame, the late-comer cannot bowl the game and a blind score of 120 will be given for that game.
6. LadiesÂ’ Handicap
The LadiesÂ’ Handicap shall be calculated as follows:
(180 – 6 games’ average in Singles Event) divided by 2
The maximum handicap allowed for ladies is 25. This Handicap will be added into the total pinfalls in the doubles, quartet, top 5 qualifiers for Step-Ladder Finals and the total pinfalls of the Step-Ladder Finals as well.
