The ball may rebound after hitting the 1st pin if it's too light.

usually use 8lbs
but notice after playing few rounds my arm start to feel tired.. and lack of strength in the bowl..
Coz feel the bowl getting more heavier as more rounds.. dwn

a 6' dude using a 9lb ball.. house ball some more
it fits... i just stick my fingertips and tip of my thumb in it.. then release.. in a spinner-type movement..
not a problem at all...

Well, strikes are not usually with me when my fingers start swelling , coz my knuckles/joints are more sensitive.
I need some weight to have the correct momentum with the pendulum release of the ball.
And i dont have much muscles on my arm.
U sure you are 6' ? Last time i seen you was quite some time ago , you didnt grew taller ? -

I'm using a 15 pounder It's true that paths of lighter balls get deflected easily...
On the other hand, take care of the wrist and fingers. Once hurt, there's no turning back time. -

If you face competition weight pins, even 11lb have problem striking. Try the Pins at East Coast Leisure bowl. 11.5lb ball going in by Spinner style hitting the pocket, kept leaving pin 8. I cam imagine using 6lb to 8lb ball, must throw at very high speed.

6 pounds the lightest i saw.. 13 is perfect for me because it is just nice weight for me to do whatever i want..

i use 12lb ones, but sometimes the holes are not fitting, so i may use 11 or 13lbs....

I read here that someone carries an 8lbs ball?hmm....Well as a general guide, and I do mean general...Unless under instruction to increase or decrease ball weight, the general rule of thumb is that you carry your age in weight.
That means that if you are 14 yrs old, you carry 14lbs. If you are 10yrs old, you carry 10lbs. This rule applies to a maximum of 15lbs. No one really carries 16lbs anymore. And please don't try to be smart and ask things like what if you are 30yrs old? Do you carry 30lbs balls?

still spinning with a houseball..
but recently got my paws on a horrendously heavy ball (i think it's 16lb) and learning the hook
it's fun! -
If you want to be casual about it and can find a supplier/builder, then you can actually use any weight you wish.
For sanctioned tournaments, bowling balls are limited between 6.0 and 16.0 pounds in weight after drilling.
