What do you think an individual need to know before participating a league, or joining a team for league?
-
time, place, format, cost, no of players, his/her other commitments, and whether the ball return at the lanes can return a log.

hm, i think he/she has to
1) be familar with the lanes and the alley (whether got good food? oh, btw, wanna comment that the cafeteria food of Planet Bowl is good!)
2) be familar with his/her teammates, whether can gel into the team or not (strict requirement of F.O.S, not s.h.i.t.t.y enough, no no...)
3) the competiveness, goal and direction of the team (challenging for top 3, or bottom 3)
4) the role that he/she suppose to play (key member, rotational or exposure)
5) whether he/she can commit to the team (if can't commit, better not join)
just my HUMBLE opinion... -
the cafe at planet is good? the last time i went there.. they served cold fried rice...

long time no post..
anyway.. i think.. very important.. is to know wat the bowler himself/herself wan first...
wat is his purpose?
to improve? to hao lian?
to push himself to a new height?
to go for league etc...
i think the bowler otta know well enough wat is his purpose b4 he thinks about joining a team..
after which will consider on others as wat said above..
hmm... yah.. good food can get the mood up in fact..

Not easy really........what u all say very true,
donnon if you agree with me.....Team bonding & Spirit also plays a great deal
Have seen many teams formed and dissolved over the years, my's included too.
Most of the time, the captain will have hardtime on getting bowlers to bowl........unless the team members also have other outing activities....
Otherwise.........after round 1, 20% - 50% half team is gone, left with the few to "Tahan" all the way till the leagues end..........then end of league & team.
Count yourself fortunate if your are able to last a few seasons......
The team here at SIM/UOL Previously Buzzsaw, recently F.O.S. keep it up.
It would be good if you guys can come up with a more permanant team name.... It does help on the bonding and sense of identity.

Team SIM-XXXX
Ya......good food at bowling centres does help too.....coz some may need to rush w/o dinner.........
For Planetbowl, heard that the Mee Goreng not bad too.....
FYI.....
There's Prawn Noodle & Ah Nam mee Pok at nearby coffeshop not bad too.

I agree about the importance of team spirit and bonding in the bowling squad.
Throughout the few leagues that I have been a part of over the last few years, having a strong team spirit is great when the team is doing well, but it is even more important when the team is NOT doing well!
Commitment and Karma are important ingredients for a team. Nothing is more frustrating for a team captain than having bowlers that is always unavailable, or doesn't show up at all whenever he/she is not playing. As for Karma, well, it's a simple thing... you have to bowl with people you enjoy being around... not much point in having a team mate that you hate the guts of.
I sincerely hope that Team FOS would stay together as a unit for many leagues to come!
