I have heard that putting your computer on STANDBY is bettter than SHUTTING it down; Could you give me some info on the subject, please. Thank you.
The Main Benefit of Having Standby Mode is
Save Power Resources
If your computer supports the ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) standard then you will much happier than others.
ACPI also enables you to save power resources. With Windows 98 Second Edition you can choose a power scheme and define its settings on a specific device-class basis. Depending on your ACPI computer and other hardware peripherals, you can:
Turn off your monitor and hard disks automatically to save power.
Put the computer on standby manually—or automatically—when it is idle for a short period of time. While on standby, your monitor and hard disks are off, and your computer uses less power. When you want to use the computer again, it reactivates quickly, and your desktop is restored exactly as you left it. Standby is particularly useful for conserving battery power in portable computers.
Put your computer in hibernation for an extended period of time. The hibernation feature turns off your monitor and hard disk, saves everything in memory on disk, and turns off your computer. When you restart your computer, your desktop is restored exactly as you left it. (Note: It takes longer to bring your computer out of hibernation than out of standby.
Password-protect your computer for standby or hibernation mode.)
Hopes This Helps,
