SINGAPORE: A team of secondary school students have adopted a neighbourhood coffee shop toilet as part of a project initiated by the Public Hygiene Council to promote hygienic practices in public restrooms.
For months, students from Dunman High School's Environment Club have been regularly maintaining the cleanliness of toilets at a coffee shop located along Tanjong Katong Road.
They have also
created posters and tissue paper packet designs, all for the purpose of
raising awareness on the need for cleaner public restrooms.
Their
efforts seem to be paying off, as the coffee shop management said that
the posters, placed there since January, have helped patrons to be more
considerate.
Dunman High School student, Mah Looi Han, said: "The
public toilets in Singapore are not very clean, especially coffee shop
toilets. You see a lot of flies and water with a lot of mud and dirt. So
we feel it's very unhygienic, and we want to take up this project so as
to improve the quality of public toilets."
