M1 FIBRE BROADBAND DISCUSSION / NETWORKING SETUP / INFO / PROMO
Dear People , this thread is created to help out people whom are interested in M1 Roadshows, Promotions and information on how Fibre Broadband works etc. I am no expert or certified CCNA but with only sufficient knowledge on networking. There are many things to find out before you are committed to 2 years contract, so below are some information you can refer to before making up your mind.
What is Fibre Broadband NGNBN?
This fibre optic platform will be the key foundation of the Next Gen NBN, which is part of the Intelligent Nation 2015 or iN2015 blueprint to turn Singapore into a sophisticated city with seamless high-speed connectivity
How do I know when my home is going to be Fibre ready?
You can go to http://rollout.opennet.com.sg/ and key in your postal code to check when OpenNet is coming to your area.
Why should I choose Fibre Optics over Cable or ADSL broadband?
A fibre optic cable is a silica (glass) composite which permits the transmission of data over longer distances and at higher bandwidths (data rates) than copper based infrastructure. Signals travel along fibre with less loss, and are also immune to electromagnetic interference compared to copper wires.
Therefore, fibre optics will be able to support the delivery of a greater variety of services such as HD video and 1Gbps bandwidth services.
How is the process to arrange OpenNet to install the Fibre Terminal Point (TP)?

Got a question about Fibre Broadband? Find the answer here 1. Why do I need Fibre Home Broadband? High speeds of up to 1000Mbps for all your surfing needs. With the increasing availability of high bandwidth applications such as HD video streaming, M1 Fibre Home Broadband will be able to provide you with just the speed to meet your needs. 2. Am I eligible to sign up? In order to sign up for Fibre Home Broadband, your premises would need to be either: Home Reached or Home Pass and Ready for service according to information provided by OpenNet. To check for service availability, you can call OpenNet Hotline at 6563 4273. 3. I do not have a fibre optic termination point installed at my home yet, what can I do to sign up for a M1 High Speed Fibre Broadband? If your premise is certified ready for service by OpenNet, M1 will be able to help you to arrange for the fibre termination point to be installed by OpenNet's contractors when you sign-up for any of the High Speed Fibre Broadband plans. 4. Are there any monthly bandwidth caps or data usage limitations for M1 Fibre Broadband? No, all the plans come with unlimited data usage. 5. I'm an existing M1 home broadband customers. Can I upgrade to the new High Speed Fibre Broadband? Existing Home Broadband customers who are not under contract will be able to switch to M1 High Speed Fibre Broadband. 6. Can my existing wireless router be used for fibre broadband? Yes, all you need to do is to connect their wireless router to the optical network terminal (ONT). 7. How long does it take to activate my High Speed Fibre Broadband? It will take approximately 7 working days (subjected to your availability for scheduling of appointments for installation). 8. Must I sign up for M1's fixed line voice service when signing up for the broadband plan? You can opt to sign up for the free M1 Fixed Voice service if they like but it is not required. However, you will need to obtain a residential gateway on rental from M1 if you choose to take up M1 Fixed Voice. 9. For M1 Fixed Voice service, can I keep my existing Singtel or Starhub number? Yes, you can keep your existing Singtel or Starhub number when you sign up for M1 Fixed Voice with us. All you have todo is to fill up a number porting application form with us and your number port will be effective in approximately 5 working days from the activation of your M1 High Speed Fibre Broadband. 10. Do I have to use M1's Residential Gateway in order to use M1 Fixed Voice? Yes, in order to enjoy M1 Fixed Voice, you'd need to use the Residential Gateway from M1. 11. Do I need to keep my Residential Gateway switched on at all times to use M1 Fixed voice? Yes, as M1 Fixed Voice is connected to your Residential Gateway, you'd need to keep your Residential Gateway switched on at all times in order to receive calls through your home phone. 12. What happens if I change my residential/ service address? Can the fibre broadband service betransferred to my new home if it is fibre ready and ready for service? Transfer of service to another residential/service address is currently unavailable. If you require a transfer of service to a different residential/service address, the present connection has to be terminated and a new order for service at the new location has to be submitted. 12. How do I qualify for the Student Benefit? Valid Student pass and sign up/recontract of mobile line with Student Benefits. -
