NUS
Chinese Orchestra has the honour to collaborate with renowned Hong Kong
composer Mr. Chen Ning-chi (陈能济) in an exclusive concert featuring the
works of Mr. Chen. Headlining the concert will be symphonic poem The
Battle of Chibi《赤》, which recently made its world premiere with the
Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. NUSCO will be performing the Singapore
premiere of The Battle of Chibi. Mr. Chen has been a prolific composer
for deca...des,
and produced numerous classics along the way, including the popular
Hong Kong musical Tales of Walled City《城寨风情》, Becoming a Butterfly in a
Dream 《梦è¶ã€‹ and The Legend of the Dragonã€Šé¾™çš„ä¼ å¥‡ã€‹, all of which will be
played at the concert.
The Battle of Chibi presents a unique
sound tapestry fused together by the sounds of the guqin, Song Dynasty
lyrics, and Suzhou pingtan that is sure to awe many in the audience. The
epic scale of the piece, together with its rich historical background
of the Three Kingdoms era, makes this performance a must-watch event in
the 2011 music calendar.
Mr. Chen Ning-chi would be giving a
preconcert talk about his compositions here in Singapore, in addition to
the concert. This rare opportunity is in line with the NUSCO mission of
educating the public about Chinese Orchestral music. The NUSCO Annual
Concert 2011 promises to be at once a musical extravaganza and an
educational journey rolled into one.
