Hi there. I'm 19 this year. I'm planning a free & easy trip to Hong Kong this upcoming april for my bf and me.
However, doing so much researched, i'm still not confident.
SO..
Could anyone be kind and share some of your experiences you've in Hong Kong (if you have been there b4) for me? And is Hong Kong a safe place like Singapore where u can roam freely? Is HK disneyland worth to go? etc etc etc....
PLEASE??!! dun be stingy..
HK is a very safe place, but having said that, common sense applies everywhere, dun show your valuables in public, take care when you are in crowded places (which happens alot in HK).
It has a very comprehensive transport system. Buy the Octupus Card from the airport which will allow you travel on the MTR and Buses etc. Taxis are relatively expensive.
The temple street markets or ladies markets, most of them are in the Kowloon side of Hongkong. While there are upmarket shopping malls in both the HK Island side and Kowloon side.
The peak would be a great place to visit at night with your BF. If you want you can buy the pkg to the peak plus the Madame Tussad's museum at the Peak ticket counter.
If you are adventurous, do venture out to the islands like Lantau Island and Lamma Island. Great places to visit with Lamma ISland good seafood.
TUng Chung, at then end of the MTR line, has a great factory outlet mall.
for tim sum just ask the old folks for directions.
avoid the big restaurants.
hong kong is a very beautiful place. very comfortable to be there.
no trouble at all if you can speak cantonese.
close 2 eyes also can travel there lah.. very safe one...very easy one... where u wan to go?? i tell u how to go lor... disneyland is small lah.. if u dun plan to go tokyo or us or paris one then u go hk one see see look look lor dun expect anything much... i think our RWS will beat them very soon...... and depend what kind of trip u looking for lor.. relax relax one.. or shopping or go see nature ....
well, disneyland is a nice adventure if U have not been to one. it is relatively smaller than the one in Japan if U want an estimate. on the whole it is one day thingy, cause U want to stay for the fireworks. plus, it is easily accessible via mtr.
I think HKG is much like Sg in terms of transport, so u should have no problems moving around. food on the streets are quite safe for our tummy.
Get yourself a good shoe, prepare for lots of walking.
HK Disneyland is not worth going, especially if you have been to Tokyo Disneyland or those in the USA. Its very small. The car park is bigger than the park itself. Need to walk about 20 mins to the entrance. But only take 30 mins to finish circling round the park..
I suggest:
You buy an octopus card at the Airport. This card is like our ezlink card. Can be used at 7 Eleven and many other places, apart from buses, trains and trams.
You can try taking CityFlyer to your hotel (A21 for Nathan Road), instead of the Airport Express (train service)... The express bus will end you up on the streets (near most hotels), whereas for the Airport Express, you have to carry your luggage and transfer to the MTR at Hong Kong Station (the linkage is about 15 mins walk) and then up the streets as their MTR stations are underground and need to walk up the stairs .... as most stations do not have escalators and lifts.
Star Ferry
KMB bus 1,1A,2, 6 brings you from Star Ferry to Nathan Road..... covers Tsim Sha Tsui / Jordan / Mong Kok area.....
Ocean Park
Take Citybus 629 from Admiralty MTR.
You can see panda bears, aquatic animals and have a fun day riding all the amusement park rides.... Closes at about 6pm - 7pm... can visit the peak after ocean park.
The Peak
Take NWFB 15C from Star Ferry (HK Island). It will bring you to the lower peak terminus where you can take the red tram up The Peak.... Visit Madame Tussauds Wax Museum up at the peak. Buy a ticket to view the upper gallery when you can see the scenary of Hong Kong. Nice time to visit will be around sunset. See the night view and day view.
There are 2 queues for the peak tram at the lower terminus. One is for group tours (mainly chinese prcs) and one is for free n easy. Free n easy do not need to wait.
Ngong Ping 360
Take MTR to Tung Chung Station.
Take the crystal cabin. Its a return 1 hour cable car ride to visit the great buddha at the peak. It'll cost you SIN$10 more but you get priority queue. No need to squeeze with the PRCs and budget conscious tourists visiting Hong Kong. You can get a crystal cabin for yourself, instead of squeezing a 10 person cable car up Ngong Ping Village.
Monkey Tales Theatre is crap. Dun waste your money.
Ladies Market
Walk about and experience a feel of Hong Kong.
Tsim Sha Tsui / Mongkok / Jordan
Walk through the streets.

Hong Kong is not as safe as Singapore, cos they have a lot of China tourists coming from rural areas.
Do not leave valuables around like you do in Singapore. Watch out for your valuables when you go to Ocean Park cos there are a lot of China tourists and you need to place your bags at the common areas. Those china tourists rush for your belongings after the rides.... So BEWARE!
Try to leave it at the side of the placement... instead of the centre... cos you cant beat the china tourists when you retreive your items.. side easier to take than squeeze with them...
I love HOng KOng. It was rather safe to walk around in the night before the China takes over, now I am not sure.
Love the wanton mee, dim sum, and other food. food there tastes yummy yummy.
wow. thanks so much for the vaulable infos.
If you have Channel 53, go watch the programmes, there are progammes on HOng KOng places and food.
If you want to go dai pai tong, it is only available in Sheung Wan - most of the stalls are not having their own shops. In Sheung Wan, there are still a few dai pai tong.
The wanton mee is a must to try if you love prawns. I ate at a shop (looks an old shop) in Central, the taste was superb.
Roast Goose is yummy there. I ta pao back to sg.
The journey on the bus to STanley Market is interesting as one can get to see nice houses and enjoy looking at the sea - Cheng soi wan.
Good to shop in HOng Kong
