The WP rally had 5000 spectators, while the PAP rally had about 500 spectators. But surely pigs will fly before the WP beats the PAP by a 10:1 margin.

I beg to differ. You can't reproduce the rah-rah atmosphere at the rallies and create the same excitement on a recorded monologue. But it's still a good move - he's going to lose his deposit anyway so he might as well cut costs somewhere.
