Lucky it's just one candidate.
Imagine if the public was critical of 5 or 6 of the new candidates.

Good article.
Food for thought.
I like the sentence where the author asks if "the PAP is using the GRC system to bulldoze inferior candidates into Parliament."
This election is not just about voting (or not voting) in a seemingly unqualified candidate into parliament, but also for the public to reflect about the whole political system and process in Sg.

She is perhaps the most controversial candidate ever to stand in sg elections.
Will definitely go down in history whatever the outcome of the elections.
bbqextrafirespicysauce: http://www.todayonline.com/Singapore/EDC110407-0000373/Youngest-PAP-candidate-takes-online-criticism-in-her-stride
SINGAPORE - The online vitriol has come thick and fast for some new People's Action Party (PAP) candidates, including its youngest candidate in three decades, Ms Tin Pei Ling (picture).
Ms Tin, 27, told MediaCorp that she is taking it in her stride: "It's really about people and residents. I'll focus my energy working the ground and learning from seniors like Mr Matthias Yao, to see how I can help residents."
And while Ms Tin has no intention of throwing the book at her detractors, a check by MediaCorp showed that under the amended Parliamentary Elections Act - which only comes into effect during the period of a General Election - candidates can raise concerns with the Elections Department on comments made before or after the elections.
Changes to the Act in March include a new penalty of a fine or jail term of up to 12 months, or both, for anyone who publishes false statements about the personal character or conduct of a candidate "for the purpose of affecting the return of any candidate".
Still, former Nominated Member of Parliament Siew Kum Hong - a corporate counsel - noted that any enforcement actions would deviate from the Government's light touch policy on Internet regulation.
Mr Siew pointed out that "some degree of attacks and criticisms online is to be expected and can never be eliminated".
"The proper approach would be to announce any change in policy in advance, and then take enforcement action against conduct subsequent to the announcement, so that netizens would not be caught by surprise," he added.
PAP MP Zaqy Mohamad, who chairs the Government Parliamentary Committee for the Ministry of Information Communication and the Arts, reiterated that the Government takes a "light touch approach" unless the attacks are persistent and defamatory.
Singapore Management University (SMU) law lecturer Eugene Tan noted that enforcement action could also be taken when the comments are racist. He added that the law gives the government a range of tools to use if needed, "but whether to invoke it is a judgment call".

The article in ST. It said of the entire pop, 80% are still sec/pri educated heartlanders. Only 20% are of tertiary education - the whole country as of today.
I am very sure PAP will return to power (not possible 66% margin) but my guess is between 50 to 60% range.
The heartlanders will kpkb about PAP but will still vote this party. Just like my neighbour - husband/wife not working, son/daughter obb jobbers, on and off job. All staunch PAP supporters - and my top and bottom neighbours.
So long as Singaporeans remain ignorant, bo chap, dont want to hear the truth (for the truth hurts), has no sympathy for the poor, old and unfortunate, blinded to $$$ (even if it is artificial wealth created out of asset inflation), hack care about democracy, check and balance of executive power, corruption, abuse of power etc, there is no hope for substantial or systematic change in this country.
Change will slowly come, only when this 80% of lowly educated uncles and aunties pass on and their ratio is reduced.
i thot ms tin pei ling is having a romance with this Chen Show Mao
Mao = meow = cat?

total ELECTRICITY n WATER bills @ his time was 1 mere < S$10
NOW, a simple avg household has its SP bills easily above > S$200
chin (smc ward) was a REAL FIGHTER during his era, fighting 4 a parliament seat
chia (smc) fought n won, BUT SADLY, was thrown in2 isolation by our very own 1st pm, lky.
tin (grc) is GOING 2 STROLL IN2 PARLIAMENT, riding on d back of a white horse.

I agree with your assement about the locals' behaviour but I doubt whether Sinkapore can survive another five more years of PAP in charge. THe situation is dire and the mass grave that local Sinkaporeans are digging is a huge and vast one, enought for the remaining dying out Sinkaporeans.

Whatever the election outcome, we have to accept it.
That's what elections are about.
elections is like a mediacorp drama...

Just a reality check, not to pour cold water.
Like many, I too hope for more opp in parliament.
Those who are keen to see better result should volunteer time for the opp. Now is good time to start.
