THE current contentious issue on the affordability of public housing was given another airing by Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew who cautioned Singaporeans not to cast a protest vote against the ruling party over this.
As Singaporeans lament about rising flat prices, he said they ought to understand the Government sells them at a subsidised price, below market rate, so that they can own an asset that will appreciate in value over the years. It adds to their wealth and this is asset-enhancing policy Mr Lee believes citizens should not find fault with.
If they do, they must be 'daft', he said at a dialogue during a housing conference as part of a series of events to mark the Housing Board's (HDB) 50th anniversary.
And if National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan is unable to defend this policy, 'he deserves to lose' at the next General Election, he quipped to laughter from the participants, including a chuckling Mr Mah.
But if Mr Mah loses to the opposition, he warned that Singaporeans better sell their flats fast as it would no longer be of any value.
Mr Lee's blunt remarks were in response to a question by dialogue moderator Tommy Koh, who pulled out a Straits Times report which said at least three opposition parties are keen to contest Tampines GRC that Mr Mah helms, as they want to raise the affordability of public housing as an election issue to gain votes.

Property prices are not dictated by the lost of another incompetent minister. Property prices are part of a bubble economy globally.

Aiyah, this type of bluff useless one. Do that so many times liao.
So sick of this type of blow toad want to be a cow type of story.
Sporeans also don't believe liao.
HDB goes up, it doesn't make a difference because you can't sell, else where are you going to live.
HDB goes down, it doesn't matter too, cause you won't have a place to live if you sell it.
On the other hand, if the price of HDB goes down, means younger couples could afford the flats for their startup family without having to pay 30-40 years.
The high value of HDB is just a false sense of security, an illusion of having something of high value when it is inconsequential. It's like having a piece of rock thinking it is worth it's weight in gold.
If they win again, it's going to be the same old history repeating itself all over again, they going to bleed Singaporeans dry again.
A vote is a vote and LKY need not worry about what is behind the reason for that vote although he should have worried about it 5 years before this cumming erection if he didnt want PAP to get screwed this time around.

Supposing mah lost the GE, so what?
PAP can ask someone to take over the policy. Back to square one.
Prices up or down, we still have to live in hdb flats. Make no diferent.
So, whoever win (oppositon), it really makes no different on the hdb flat (value).
Not to worry! Even if every Singaporean cast a protest vote, our dear Mental Midget has boasted that he would send the military in to "correct" the freak election results!

I don't think he cares, as long as he and his cronies are able to hold on to power.
Nothing new, isn't new? Feeling it shaking, old evil dictator giving warning. This indicates the evil dictator has no confidence in the coming election.
Singaporeans, fear not, just go ahead to cast votes that show them you refuse to tolerate the constant rise in the price of the HDB flats and rise in living costs. Without LKY and party, Singaporeans will still survive. This old evil speaks as if the HDB flats belong to us.
Besides, chau kuan style, seems lky is not capable to say or do anything else to scare people.

Just remove power from the old evil, he will not survive long.
Who gonna take over if pap is removed?
OK, so, which is better?
1) Overhaul the PAP
2) Chop some of the cronies off from PAP
3) PAP remain but new blood comes in.
4) Which credible party can run the govt?

Hope he passes on before election.
actually, I want him to lose the election, and then die of a heart attack after the results are announced.

oh . .. . . . . good one! Like that the the team of doctors or the doctor on duty to take care of him at that time will be at risk ! If this happens, probably the doctor will lose his her rice bowl. Something already happened before. Oops, better keep my mouth shut. wahahahah!
Singaporeans are badly treated, really! Whenever the old evil does not feel like it, we will kena from him. As if we owe him our living when we are his bosses.
I hope the foreign press will have the chance to read his threat to us and blow the issue big for the world to see.
