Hi!
I'm looking to enter the School of Business In NP, but I'm not sure whether I should go for Accountancy or Business Studies. Hopefully I can get an honest opinion about these 2 courses from the poly students there. Is it true that studying accounting there is difficult?
Thanks in advance!
My sis used to study Accountancy in NP and she admitted it was pretty tough. It will be good if you have POA background (though not necessary) because I have friends who take financial informatics and they are struggling with accounts (one of their modules). Can't provide u more info than that because I am so sure about courses in Poly.
accountancy is very boring really, business studies more interesting. When you find something is interesting, there's a higher chance you'll score better. Personal opinion.
Rock^Star you are from accountancy?
Boring as in?
Accountancy? Yeeee, so boring, all the accountants I know are desperate, single and lonely, in their 30s, mostly females.
LOL? i thot accountants work like 5 days a week?

No, only engineers work 5 days a week, because you can't do an engineer's job at home on sundays. You can't operate a 250 ton crane while having breakfast in bed can you?
no u cant. so u r an accountant?

No, I'm an engineer.
You think diploma in accounting is tough?
You haven't tried the ACCA yet.
=.= then how u know most accountants cant marry off? but accountanting has a good job prospect unlike taking a general business course?

Awesome, but maybe not as awesome as business type studies people or something.
i guess it depends on passion and interest.

Very very boring. Especially the taxation module. So boring and dead that I dropped it and swtiched over to Business in my second year. Well that was years back.
then shldn't it be quite easy to do well in if everything is dead and standard?

Engineering is dead and standard as well, but it ain't easy. hmmmmm
Definitely accountancy. business studies is too generalised, and even in their internship, many of them end up working at places which aren't even offices, and doing jobs like selling tickets at GV and stuff.
Accountancy you're guaranteed an internship doing audit, tax, or accounts in an office, and even if you want to learn something like marketing, or finance etc, you can still do it in year 3.
But yes it is boring though and business studies tends to have prettier girls but thats not really the point is it.

it is so dead that it bored the shit out of me and made it very very difficult as a result.
so many diff accounts to both courses. but if what stellazio says abt business studies is true then it would seem like accountancy is the better choice. but it's said to be tough...lol back to square one?

That IS the point, isn't it lol.
then what is the pt of me asking for advice in the first place? LOL!

no la, in SP then, first year students from accountancy and biz studied the same modules. It was a smooth transition to business in my 2nd year. If this rule applies in NP, then why not try accountancy first and then switch over to banking or business if you don't like it.
When you enter accountancy course 1st then come and ask us all these.
