i'm in my early 40s thought of changing my career to driving taxis.. no cpf job is ok for me coz i live in hdb rental..so no housing loans, no bank loans..
freedom mind.. but here are a few hot question which is always in my mind..1. better join full or relief hirer?
2. which taxi company should i join after completing my course?
3. do taxi driver have any leave?
if let say want to take leave & go for holiday, still need to pay rent?

If you need a personal transport and can survive on $50 a day earning then OMO.
2. which taxi company should i join after completing my course?
If you know the routes well and have confidence to take call join CDG. If not familiar then join Red and sweep. If stay near CNG kiosk at Toh Tuck can try Wish for OMO. If relief please stick to CDG.
3. do taxi driver have any leave?
No leave but got free rental days. 3 per year for CDG 4 for Transcab.

Yes but can find a super relief if OMO. Transcab rate $60 CDG $70-80 so must lugi $30-$50 a day. If relief can discuss with hirer maybe top up him $20 a day or you can drive whole day for him when he go holiday

The questions is not if you are committed or not, like it or not, once you drive, you are committed to pay rental and fuel. You are committed to serve the public at large.
You jolly well knew that Taxis is one of those fark up businessman in Singapore, what do you expect from it, other than people like me, driving TD is an upgrade for me, many are O level or sex 2 like me.
There are many other jobs in the market for A, diploma and degree holders, if can, try not to come TD, you only add more competition for us, but of course, it is your freedom, however, TD is more for the lower educated people who cannot really get that kind of pay outside.
But being one of the lowest, it is alway easy to gain entry to driving, end up degree holder also drive taxis

One bad thing about being a cabby is that we have neither any holiday nor sick leave.
Like right now I'm having severe gastric pain, and is still unable to pull myself together so I haven't gone to drive my shift yet...already 3+ hrs later than usual...

heart burn very common among cabbies .
eat liao drive that's the problem .
irregular meals also can caused

.Check with doctor if it's gastric acid reflux .
check google and see if u get similiar symthoms .

if not diagnose , when your gastric the "hole" got bigger , then basically , everyday pain one , once late for meals , pain .

Yes chief, I actually went to the hospital instead of driving last night as the pain was getting unbarable.
Doctors gave me a big packet of OMEZOLE 20 tablets and a bottle of MAGTASIL Antacid(both for relief of gastric pains). They also set up an appointment for me to see a specialist next tuesday, to check(probe) inside my engine, see if need to overhaul or not. LOL
Don't know they enter from the front or rear end though(a bit scared). lol
...and Chief, you're right again! They suspect there may a small hole in my gastric or stomach area and said I need to get it fixed asap or it'll become life threatening if it worsen.
To all fellow TDs, I just found out from the docs that if you are having reoccuring gastric problems/pain for a prolonged period of time and your stool happened to be black during this period. Then the chances are, something may be ruptured in your digestive system and the internal bleeding is causing the stool to turn black. (BTW, I suffer from gastric pain maybe once every 1 ~ 2 weeks, lasting a few days each time and the pain will just subside without the need for any medications)
If you happened to have the same symptoms pls see a doctor asap.

My brother died because of a hole measuring 1mm in diameter in his stomach lining, so don't think stomach illnesses can't kill, if untreated.
