My ah neh friend told me, in India, having a hp is a social status, a rich class, getting call means doing big business, so those working here from rural india tends to use hp to live like the rich of india.
Knn, most use bicycle also use Hp, nabei, why TP never catch them, very dangerous, especially at Jurong area, one hand on bicycle, one hand on hp on a morning and later afternoon peak.

Our indian here are mostly from Tamil Nadu, the southern state of india, a much poorer state comparing to the north of delhi and mumbai which have a high disparity of the rich and the poor.
However, recently new immigrant are said to be from both north and south, from north are mostly those IT and see up never see down type, from south are workers and some business peoples who, by and large, had become rich thru exploiting the poors of Tamil Nadu, in recent years, Chennai, a city state of tamil nadu have boomed and many found new fortune.
In the south, the poor can only see the rich use hp, which is consider a luxury, so when this poor come into singapore to work as worker, getting a hp is a status, and that ownership of a Iphone and Samung III is beyong any dream that can dream of. Same goes to some rural China people who work here. Therefore, you tends to see them talk very loud with loud ringing calls, or that everytime on phone even when there is no people on the other end, this was foretold to me by my contractor job in yard with indian and bangala workers.
Ideally, there are 2 types of cyclist here,
1) Who have no idea what safety is
Talking on the handphone while cycling (mostly Banglas or Indians)
Riding against the traffic (mostly Banglas, Indians or PRC)
Listening to their mp3 player while cycling
Rode across zebra crossing without even a look out
Not obeying the traffic lights, junctions & the right of way (eg. beating the traffic light.) Thinking they own the road especially when they are in a big group (eg. hogging a big portion of the lane)
Insufficient or no safety lights when riding at night
I think this group of people really deserve it if they get into an accident. No matter what roads are still suppose to serve the function of allowing cars, lorries or buses to travel. Drivers can give way to a cyclist, but cyclist shouldn't be behaving like a king especially when they are in a big group. It's all about mutual respect. It is very selflish as you are holding up the traffic, as if Singapore's road isn't congested enough.
2) Who always take precautionary measures & obey the traffic rules
esp in industrial areas gotta to keep a very sharp lookout for them..........
n i hate those cyclists in the city riding like they own the rds...................
