We celebrate as 1 people and 1 nation...I'm not a politician, neither I'm patriotism.
I react to certain sentences some people make...simple as that..

During my service we had to use a 24ft sling to tow the body of a dead NS man up after his vehicle fell off a cliff. I had to wash his blood off the sling after that. I was taken against my will for 2 years to do shit. I was charged twice for not surrendering myself to MINDEF upon return of long term overseas trip and IPPT default. MINDEF charge average 50-100 Singapore born men for IPPT default everyday.
Till now I am on medical review pending charge for another IPPT default. This country has progressively fxxk their own people over the years thanks to many wretched Singaporeans that have blind faith. Many good men have died during service. Many good men wasted their youth and time for the country that doesn't deserve shit. Many good men now have to struggle against odds to have an equal stand in their own country. I don't owe this country fxxk shit!
My existence in this country wasn't by my choice and from day one everything I had was paid for. My education, my medical and obscene amount of money lost to the government! So don't start thinking all Singaporean men are obliged to take any fxxk shit this country is giving them. I have overpaid my dues. This is a whore house for goodness sake. bring money and u can fxxk anything. What country?!

I don't know whether we are talking about the same incident.
There is a case on that in 96 ROC..many were untold those time, unlike these days.
I had my narrow escape in 94 ROC, those long enough in service will know a Super Puma clash to the mountain site, killing the pilot, co pilot and the aircrew man.
The 1 I'm in was following closely with the clash SP after dropping off the first load of Commando...weather was bad...if CPT xxx never alert our SP, most likely our SP, still full loaded with commando, will suffer the same fate.
We attended the GOH at Sembawang Airbase......
Nevertheless, regimental in SAF is a must, in war time, command and control is vital.
Peace time, we can have all kinds of comments and cock and bull stories.
Protecting our homeland is not patriot, is a natural human instinct.......
Anyway, I'm no keyboard warriors, those who can understand my points, I'm happy..those who does not, the only things I can say, let's hope we maintain peace and harmony forever....Happy National Day..

Wtf? How did salaries end up at $800 or $1000 in this era in the first place. Hello this is 2012 not 1982 or 1992. In 1992 or 1982, $800 can sure cari makan. Now even $1200 to $1500 is a real struggle.
So how did this happen? I used to work in cleaning sector, had a contract or two and I myself got work a bit also. 10 -15 years ago, $800, nobody want, even 1k, veyr hard to find takers. market rate was $40 a day minimum or $1200, ok maybe some cheapo company offer $35 a day or around $1100 a month but that's it.
The market was keeping up with inflation rising costs etc. Then what happen, our brilliant Govt open the floodgates, you got cleaning contract, retail outlet, restaurant, no problem, we bring in FT for you, cheaper and better.
Once these FT come in, forget $1000 or $1200. Pay them $600 to start with and after 2 or 3 years, raise to $800, they steam one.
Before waiter in 2002-2003, can easily earn $6-7 hour minimum, lucky can get 8 or 9. Now can get $5 an hour consider very good. Why? Who allowed FT to come in for such jobs. Who give companies the choice?
Now they wanna talk about raising salaries from $800 to 1k, screw them, they are the ones who caused the problem to begin with.
You raised some interesting points.
Remember, he is not called Swee Say for nothing.
