Hi all fellow TD Bro's, I'm a new TD started to drive night shift yesterday. Happily started my shift at 4pm with my GPS with all the confidence, but end up OBK x 100. GPS black-out after 2 hours of using, and have to be lead by pax all the way after that. Some say they know the way (Most probably hard-up for taxi going to ulu places), but end up circling to no where, and nasty words follows.... Those don't know the way I cannot pick, end up by 12 am only cover rental and fuel. Drunkard are worst after midnight, verbally abused twice, but just kept quiet. Told myself cannot work for nothing,so die die drove another 2 hours, end day, made $30 after cost. Legs numb, headache, but still have to carry on. To me, there's only one word to describe taxi driving, "Xiong".

Bro I really feel for you like you i am also a new Taxi driver being driving day shift for 3 months plus dont worry every day is not "day 1" things improve , remeber grow thick skin ignore what passanger say , keep your focus , please invest in a good GPS , i am using GPS for last 3 months never miss a day 12 hours a day , GPS gives you a good idea of what way to go and help you at the last leg of your journey espically in town. remember you are out there to make money and a living it takes time to reach higher income level initially you will make like S$ 50 to 60 it will improve hang in there

did you have a chagrer for the GPS? if not solely run on battery will not last longner than 2hrs unless you on it when U need to use it

get to make some night kakis who drove night, so any difficult situation U can call for help, cos not picking up a pax when you do not know the place, you will not learn much route or take a very long time to learn(maybe by then give up liao due to taking)

Nevermind lar , trust me , u learnt alot more once your GPS zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

For me , drive taxi damn relax one ....
Free time , hide under coconut tree play tab .
Smoke under cococut tree burnt termites .
If got pax sent me to Boon Lay after midnight , can go eat Power Nasi Lemak .
If got people sent me Geyland , can go Geylang Lor 24 see half ball , mini skirts .
If sent people to Joo Chiat , can eat WanTan Mee .
If sent people to Balestier , can eat Bah Kut Teh .
If sent people to Towner , can go Lavender eat beef noodles .
Then drive taxi can buy cheaper cigarettes .
Owen Road cigarettes cheaper than 7-11 , as much as $0.50 , LOL .
If in town , can jio kaki eat Owen Road Fish soup .
Good life .

But it is bad 4pm to 12mn , cover only rental and diesel .......
I start 10pm to 12MN , maybe got $10 salary , LOL .

Understandable, especially for newbie who never even drive much on singapore road before, it can be quite xiong, those who had done delivery or own a car, should not be much of a problem.
On the other hand, every job begining also xiong, like when I started as driving casket cum picking up dead body, first time see an accident smashed dead body, fainted. End up I go A and E, but slowly, now, see hand pick hand, see leg pick leg also no problem, then later somemore can jio colleague go eat Pig organ soup.
I also believe is not the driving problem, but more on the first encounter with paxs, that makes one nervous and blur blur. After all, most TD came from Working class, most are not the front line staff with hv direct contact with customers, now as TD, suddenly you come face to face with paxs, alone and no one to consult..but take it easy, it part and parcel of the learning journey.
Got one friend of mine just drive one day only, give up liao
drive until face green green, anxious diarrhea few times -
that's why some people think driving taxi can earn a lot of money!ask them can they work every day?12 hours or more drvng?no social life,no exercise,not enough sleep,no CPF,no off days,no MC,no annual leave,no bonus,always thinking can cover rental for the day!

Yes, not all can drive, without any perks, it can be a total change if you just come out of working, but then, in return, you got freedom and a chance to see the public more.
Last time, as a worker, I only knows how to go into assembling lines, stand there for hours, then waiting for break, then see got overtime or not, then wait for paid day, go home eat and sleep, as TD, life seem to know more things, more news, more educated, more information and so on, and also can see chio bu

Welcome to taxi driving world. Take many years to improve yr taxi skills.Use the the 4 Ws and 1 H ; When to pick up ;Where to pick up, why can pick up ; who to pick up and how to make more monies. Dun rely too much on GPS . That one for ameteur driving. Learn the hard way and learn the short cuts roads as fast as possible.

I agree with some, why start night driving as newbies?
Those night lau gui no sweat 1, close 1 eye also know how to zoom in, zoom out....and night passengers are worst than day passengers, correct me if I'm wrong..

welcome on board... it takes awhile to get the hang of it...
yeap taxi driving not as easy as most people think... espcially nite...
now aunty sontong got competitor liao...
dun know she want to change nick to sotong queen anot... ha ha,,,
