Dishonest cabby

recently my wife took a cab fr Lavender MRT to the People's association,since she don't know it was so near,so TD pretend not to on meter ,reach destination say forget!then ask her to pay any amount,then of cos since she don't have any idea how much she just pay $6!TD quietly accept it,knowing full well,it cost less than $4!these are the dirty tactics use by some experienced TD!

Hmmm, I'm a little puzzled by this dishonesty thing. He asked her to pay any amount, she paid $6, how pray tell is this dishonest? She offered to pay the amount without coercion.
Pretend not to on meter? Very subjective. Btw it's very hard to have a $4 fare these days especially if during peak periods. Start meter already over $4, plus if take white cab it's $5.
Lavender MRT to PA, still must go up Syed Alwi junction if on the other side, fare will around $5+.
Live and let live lah. This could well be a genuine case and doesn't look dishonest at all to me. Plus, your wife didn't have to walk and pespire.

there are more dishonest peoples on the street than a mere TD, 12millions by SLA, 4 chefs took thousands + free clubbing, SCDF take sex using taxpayer money, same goes to the Narcotics, and so on.
How far can a TD be dishonest?? Moreover, for a layman like us, money given extra consider appreciation and tips, a dollar or 2 maybe big to us, but to think of it, cannot even buy a bowl of kuay teow mee today.
Once I told my wife, if take taxi, talk to the TD, they are very boring, talking help to make their day better, but dun end up get court by them
, most are tiko + taiko type, by telling them that you are fellow taxi driver's wife, hope they can give discount, but be careful, if take blue, cannot say husband drive Red, and if took Red, dun say your husband drive blue, it could end up with more fares -
Actually is within walking distance, I would ask the pax if she/he want to cut across the blocks and u'll reach along King's George Ave. I'll direct them the way. Save cost. Good for pax but not for us... :(

I think brother foolsh,as a TD yourself, should take it as a pinch of salt,
TD is a multi tasking job, he or she has to know the road, look out for traffic, TP, peoples, MDT, take calls, collect money, change money, take cards, and also have to greet and at time, entertain pax, be it good or bad pax, then have to do the banking, care for the vehicle like washing, top up diesel, report any problem, look out for vehicle problem.
Then they also have to be good in time management, when to stop, change shift, when is the peak, what is the time now, sometime I drive until i also dunno what is the time or my granfather name, then forget to press city surcharge after 5, keep thinking only 6, got once ap also forget to press surcharge because of tireness.
Then like everyone else, we are also human, we also got emotion, family problem, personel problem, relatives, gf, wife, partner, problem, like a hirer going holiday, he will keep thinking of how to get a relief and so on.
Now let take a restaurant, the boss rent a place like we rent out a cab, but he overlook everything, he make sure someone is attending to the customers, someone is preparing the foods, someone is preparing the drink, someone is at the cashier only doing collecting, someone doing the cleaning and he himself do the banking. Translate it into a TD, he is the cashier, at the same time, attend to customers, prepare the journey, prepare to serve the pax, do his own cleaning, go do banking himself.
So definitely, at time, the mind goes blank, even if experienced one may go blank, sometime pax said a road so familar but knn just cannot remember it, or suddenly go blank and forget to press here and there

take a video of the interior ....zoom at the meter then zoom at the number plate inside the taxi ... the taxi will give your wife a free ride .....confirmed -

ya, dishonesty, like our DPM said, $1000 income can buy and live in a HDB comfortably, and then our Housing Minister add on that today flat sizes are the same as last time sizes.
I rather rephrase it if I am dishonest to pax, if I overcharge them, and they reprimand me, I just return them back the extra and tell them, this is not dishonesty, this is a honest mistake only

This I totally agree with JoeRaj. How can TS as a TD say such things? A bit buay gan to slam your trade fellows like this. Don't on meter as a tactic? You siao meh? You ask the most experience TD here to try they also dare not. Pax turn back bite you say tats your problem you also Lan Lan. For $2?!?!? Foolish_2000 you are no different from those pax that claim you detour the extra 10 meters to cheat them. Nothing personal against you but your words a bit unacceptable. Your wife offered $6 to a TD and you pass such malicious critisism to the TD.

there is nothing,the law can say about this,they simply say they forget to on meter!i don't know whether on purpose or really forget!who knows!it could be a tactic for short dist. trip!

remember times people assume the worst of you when you not familiar with route? I myself dunno kenna how many times liao. Sometimes it's genuine mistake. But the key is the td did not insist on the price for the distant should be $6. All those times I forgot to on meter I am at the mercy of pax willing to pay or not. No direct law for this. But pax are obliged only to pay what is shown on the meter fare. Rest is up to his discretion. call lta, police or taxi company also no one will help td one. Really if td claim that the journey is reasonably $6 I will side your mrs. I honestly feel it's hardly any chance a td will not on meter to try to overcharge.

i also forget to on meter a few times.. until near destination dan realise.. then just apologise to pax and ask them pay any amount they like.. but lucky so far, those times when i forget to on meter, pax also honest lah.. cos the amount they pay i think is quite close to what it will be lor..

Aiya not dishonest lah....is blur lah....If the cabby says any amount and if your wife is those guai lan or neow type and capitalise on the cabby's mistake and give him only $2 how? He says ANY amount hor....
But in this case your wife is those chin chai not calculative type the cabby earn lor. So cannot call people dishonest lah....
Last time I started as newbie also forget on meter on few occasions sometimes pax reminds me and some kind enough to give me a bit more then the meter fare. But some hor just keep quiet until reach give me less. I also LLST loh....Lol

If pax guai lan type then jia liat leh....pax dun pay TD also LLST. If suay kanna accident also lose big time....Not worth leh...

It's "honest mistake" or "honestly forgetful" to on the meter.
Song Bo. I have so many time honestly forget to on meter due to various circumstances like talking to pax or day dreaming about toto, and Pax pay me more. I never request them to pay more and told them to pay me what they desire, but they insist i take that amount.

if driving CDG... call the drivers helpline... the staff will plot the route taken from the satellite and tell u the fare... tis type of things one sotong TD always do one...
if not driving CDG... and hav a walkie group... page out for help to other members... usually u will get three different amount... take the lowest...
if not driving CDG and no talkie... den khoon dun know liao...
