The thing is rochor rd has junctions with 5 (4 of them major) roads. Why serious accidents only at victoria st intersection?
Those drivers had blatant disregard for speed limits and do not realise the danger they pose to others!
But I believe both the ferrari and lexus drivers believed that they had the right of way, judging from the way they sped thru the junction.
The pedestrian crossing near bugis st is an unnecessary hazard for both drivers and pedestrians!
tis morning 3 TP radars were stationed along tis 1 bfore bugis,
1 at the bus stop outside the mrt n another 1 further down near the
mosque they should juz put 1 red light camera there n the signage
then i can forsee prob solved.............

LTA to change traffic light timings at Ferrari crash junction
SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said it would synchronise the timings of the traffic lights at an area where two accidents happened within a span of just two weeks.
The traffic signals at the junction of Rochor Road and Victoria Street and the pedestrian crossing linking Bugis Junction and Bugis Village will now turn green at about the same time.
LTA said it was implementing the change, based on suggestions from the public, describing it as an "added precautionary measure".
The junction of Rochor Road and Victoria Street was the scene of two accidents that saw three dead and three injured.
The first accident on May 12 involved a speeding Ferrari, while the second one on May 26 involved a Lexus. Both cars crashed into taxis.
Both accidents happened in the wee hours on a Saturday and involved cars travelling in the same direction.
Some suggested that the straight road and the close proximity between the sets of traffic lights at two different stretches - they are about 100m apart - encouraged reckless drivers to speed in the wee hours, to try and pass the consecutive sets of lights before they turn red.
Those Channel NewsAsia spoke with, however, said it may be a problem with the positioning of the traffic lights at the intersection, which may be confusing to drivers.
Along Victoria Street, the junctions just before and after the intersection with Rochor Road have overhead traffic lights. Only the intersection where the accidents took place does not overhead traffic lights.
"Many drivers think the traffic light is still far away, and don't realise there's actually an intersection there," said taxi driver Albert Ho.
Dr Lee Der-Horng, associate professor of civil engineering at the National University of Singapore, said the timing of the traffic signals might have been a factor in the accidents.
"One possibility is that at the pedestrian crossing, maybe, the driver tried to beat the yellow signal. So after he travelled the 50, 60 metres, when he reached the major intersection, the traffic signal already turned to red," he said. "So it becomes a case where he beat the red light; therefore, the accident happened."
Dr Lee said that besides the traffic signal timings, overhead traffic lights would give drivers a better view of the signal.
"This intersection is actually satisfactory, from the safety's point of view, from the sight distance," he said.
"The only thing that could possibly improve the safety for this particular intersection is, we can probably add one more cantilever type of traffic signal, or the overhead type of traffic signal at the major intersection."
However, the Land Transport Authority said its planning engineers found no issues with the existing traffic scheme at the location.
"Our traffic planning engineers have driven through the junction of Victoria Street and Rochor Road during the day and in the middle of the night, to film the line of sight from a driver's perspective," LTA said.
"The traffic planning engineers have conducted a careful evaluation of the traffic signal configuration, and assessed that there are no issues with the existing traffic scheme at that location."
LTA said the traffic lights at the junction are distinct and can be clearly seen by the driver, whichever lane they are driving on.
The Singapore Road Safety Council has said it will consider the need to tighten specific road safety measures, after police investigations into the two accidents are completed.
CNA agrees with me regarding the overhead traffic lights .
LTA can be a real pain in our neck .

Cannot believe these can come out from their mouth !
Of course when u are doing such projects , u are prepared before hand , what had happened and what will happen .

eh..
I ever observed the traffic light signal for the entire area...
So I take from the previous junction and the actual one..
So there's Rochor Rd/ Queen St, Rochor Rd/ Victoria St, Rochor Rd/ North Bridge Rd, the other side is Ophir Rd/ Victoria St & Queen St/ Ophir Rd.
There's a pattern actually...
The traffic lights wun turn red together, is more of 1 by 1 slowly in running order.
As far as I know, the pedestrain crossing light turns red later, I believe so that they want the in between area to be fully maximised w/ the cars alrdy formed up after the Rochor junction light has turned red.
Seriously if that's the case, all the traffic light signal at the surrounding also have to adjust le...
Cos that whole place ppl always squeeze into yellow box even aft lights have gone red at the junction in front..
1 good example is the Victoria St/ Ophir Rd & Queen St/ Ophir Rd pair
A lot of sgporeans cannot drive defensively. They take it for granted. The culprit of it all is LTA. Did not heed feedback about the high rate of accidents there.
Ultimately, as usual, LTA will take all the credit for what others did and said, and after one year accident free, they will further take credit for it.
What LTA engineer at middle of the night take alignment of sight, mai tcss, most at home fcuking all the way.
Not trying to be cruel, one fine day, if LTA vehicle or TP subaru get hit by super drunk car, then they may wake the fcuk up.
simple solution:
remove the overhead hanging light at bugis pedestrian crossing...
install overhead handing light at rochor junction...
The "Moral" of these 2 accidents =
If you got the money...
Don't buy a Ferrari.....
Just buy a Lexus....
At least... Lexus won't kills.

Traffic Police maintain tough stance on irresponsible drivers
There were also calls for the conversion process of driving licences for foreigners to be reviewed.
The Traffic Police reiterated that foreign drivers only need to pass the basic theory test to convert their licences if they stay in Singapore for more than 12 months.
As of end 2011, out of 369,637 foreign drivers with converted licences, only 0.1 per cent of them contributed to traffic accidents.
The Traffic Police added that an update can be expected in the middle of next year on the ongoing review of the conversion framework for foreign drivers who ferry goods.
Ya lah knn . . . i've said earlier in the first accidet thread , many kelong license now , or so called Kopi O license , so easy to buy oversea .
Except Singapore u can't buy a license , places like Malaysia , Indonesia , India , i doubt all get their license legally .
They killed their counterpart in their country , i really dun care .
Dun come to Singapore with a bogus license and start murdering Singaporeans .
Lexus driver in Rochor crash charged
SINGAPORE: The driver of a Lexus car involved in an accident with two other cars at the junction of Rochor Road and Victoria Street was charged in court on Wednesday.
Kelvin Seah Koon Yong, 30, faced two charges of drink-driving and dangerous driving.
Seah was found to have 42 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. This exceeds the prescribed legal limit of 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath taken.
Seah's vehicle hit a taxi and a car at the junction of Rochor Road and Victoria Street after he allegedly beat the red light early in the morning on May 26.
A passenger in the taxi was sent to hospital and received outpatient treatment.
The accident happened at the same place where a Ferrari sports car crashed into a taxi and a motorcycle on May 12, claiming three lives.
Seah, who is self-employed, turned up in court with his father who yelled at reporters and photographers.
Seah said he was not engaging a lawyer.
His case will be heard again on June 13.
If convicted of drink-driving, he may be disqualified from driving for up to a year.
First-time offenders can be fined between S$1,000 and S$5,000, or jailed up to six months.
