There was some discussions on split shift , opinions from different camps .Let's discuss here .

In my opinion ... two words : NO LIFE !
Wake up drive taxi , go home rest , wake up drive taxi , then go home sleep .
Sleep wake up drive taxi , then go on and on . .
In between do personal things , wages affected .
Take home worst then a full swing half shift .

during my time , i really dun mind working split on Mon -Friday , cos got business .
Saturday if follow routine , die cock standing .
So what i did , start work late , then my body those rhythm goes haywire .
Sunday same start late , but due to the fact my rhythm went haywire on Saturday , affected my Sunday as well .
So as so u try to adjust here adjust there , in the end , the body confuse !
Affected simply every tomorrow .

Anyway, I know some of my kakis are doing that, due to many many reasons.

Bro, I have tried split shift for a week. In my trial, obviously it is the most productivity time slots available with 25% extra surcharge. I can easily hit my expected quotas with less stress. However I strongly agree with Pool and Red5XX, No life..... and your lifestyle really need to be adjusted accordingly.... But again you can do your personal things during the off-peak timing. CDG don't care of the off-peak because they still have calls coming in.

If everyday split shift then susah a bit, but if a few times a week, quite good actually. I cover full day every Tuesday and always split it. 6-10am chase peak for rental, after 10 relax, ferry cousin, go marketing, go lunch and nap. Then 5+ restart until say 11 or 12, sometimes earlier.
Or if got night activity, come out earlier, say 2pm (after the 10 am break) and work til 6 or 7. Of course, just go slow, pax not hard to find.

Ya man, afternoon do thing very good, less people, go to those telco or bank also no Q. For me, if OMO, i do not do split shift, 6 to 8 standard, sleep at 10, wake at 6am, drive until 8pm, but in between, got go home eat and sleep. My mother alway home cook teochew porridge, nice and healthy and yet save.
When I work at shipyard/factory, the MOM rule allow only 72hrs OT, meaning out of 44 per week or 176hr per month normal working hour, a person can only go for another 72hrs, that is the safe and so called healthy limit and lifestyle, so if you work full OT, a total of 248hrs is the limit for the month.
If you apply that to TD, you should not, or try not to work above that kind of hours per month, then you are consider having a balancing lifestyle, otherwise, it is no life, unhealthy and yet not safe.

Now pay bills all internet banking , where got time go Q here Q there .
Sleep also not enuf time liao , still find things to do ?

I need to pickup the latest info asap as the TDVL course are still using old info. Correct me if I am wrong.
Peak Hours Surcharge - 25% of metered fare
Mon - Fri: 6.00am to 9.30am
Mon - Sun & Public Holidays: 6.00pm to midnightMidnight Surcharge - 50% of metered fare
Midnight to 5.59am
The reason why I also look into split shift is also because of the peak hours surcharge. If one were to work from 9:30am to 6:00pm (8.5 hours), theoretically he will miss out the 25% extra collection compared to someone who work from 6:00am to 9:30am (3.5 hours) and from 6pm to 11pm (5 hours). The off-peak hours TD will have to drive another 2.5 hours (8.5*1.25) to earn the same as the peak hours TD.
The peak hours TD can do a lot of things during the off-peak hours (8.5 hours). He can have both his lunch and early dinner with his family, run errands, rest or even sleep especially during friday where it is possibly one of the best day to drive.

If u want apply the split shift , on weekdays maybe ok to try. Please try only (Just my 2 cents)
But when on weekend, I think u have to have other strategy.

Please also include on your surcharge list that the CDB surcharge is from 5pm till 12mn everyday.

CBD Surcharge - $3.00
Mon - Sun & Public Holidays: 5.00pm to midnight
Looking at the hours, it's good to be in CBD area during peak hour from 6.00pm to 11/midnight.
Hopefully LTA will change the peak hour from 6pm to 5pm since CBD surcharge starts from 5pm.

Two peak hours not neccessary can fetch you good income .
In fact , business and income mostly generated from no peak .
Go think about it .
Seniors here maybe can tell you , there will be more people grapping a cab after peak .

No lah, i free alway go telcos talk to chio bu, see here and there, see new gadgets at courts or harvey dorman, buy groceries, go home give mother for cooking teochew porridge, then go sleep, wake up, eat porridge, fruits and go work, seldom eat outside. -

On paper it looks good, but can be a different story when on the road.

Morning Ok lah, so many chiong city..the evening peak abit sian, especially in CBD, fark lah, all wait along the boundary of CBD, take lor, still got 25%, running than Q at CBD wasting fuel, but if got pax go into CBD, then Q lor.But some farking pax wait outside CBD, ask you to go pick someone inside CBD, he/she pays the ERP, but TD never get the $3 surcharge, knn, why support the govt??

Split or one time do all is up to individual TD, their habits, style and patterns, their family committment, energy and way of driving.
As long as backside do not drive until split or both legs split open out..ok liao

Split shift is mental draining. I tried for past 1 week due to my relief kena terminate by CDG. Luckily i got weekend reliefs to help out.:) Income wise, no difference from 12hrs shift. But realli feel like zombie during this period. Also split shift tends to consume more diesel. Evening peak crowd only till certain timing, after that must know where to pickup pax. The sleep quality in between the timing is not good for me. Tends to feel sleeply always.:(

i 100% against split shift for myself lah.. others want to do it, they have their own reasons.. but seriously, not necessary drive only peak, u will earn more.. some off peak periods like 9.30am to 11.30am and 3.30pm to 6pm, these periods u chiong also better than the peak periods... but of cos, some will say less effort to get the same amount.. so endless lah... to each his own.. as long as u are comfortable with ur schedule, then u stick to it...

irregardless u drive peak... non peak... half shift... six hours to eight hours to earn rental fix de...
sometimes... peak collection per hour can be lower den non-peak collection per hour...
why? not going to share here...
let the new boys start driving liao den learn the hard way...
No Offence... but seems MMO69 is planning and planning before he start driving...
one simple advice: start as relief... learn the trade first.. den go think about omo... day shift... night shift... split shift...
seen so many newbies omo:
most fade away or end up doing half shift... (tuna seng... skip...poolman hav a list of names longer den khoon's blog)
those few who managed to do okay either hav someone with enough experience guiding them... (whyt... jackpotlok...)
or juz simple... easily contented... happy go lucky never think too much type... (jlkl... )
or veri focused... learning the trade progressively and with some enterprising ideas... (ericgo)

yeap... good to to be in CBD from 6pm...
but from 6pm to 8pm... pay $3 erp to go into cbd to collect $3 city surcharge?
go into cbd... u know how many taxis at all the taxi stands? but no pax...
after 8pm dun need pay erp liao... u know almost 80% of nite drivers chiong into cbd... u think as a newbie u stand a chance to fight with seasoned drivers? nite driving is not easy... ask komade... how many years he took to acquire his skills...
LTA does not regulate the peak hours... they dun even bother... it is the PTC tat approves taxi fares proposed by taxi companies...
and the peak hour was recently changed from start at 5pm to 6pm...
LTA never bother about TD welfare de... they are like school discipline masters... round every corner to catch TD breaking rules and regulations...
