Govt are elected and designed to serve it people, provide people a decent livinghood and a shelter on top of people's head. As simple as that is consider a good govt.
But if you look at our elected PAP govt, are they elected and designed to serve us? Most TD you ask them will PHUI X10000 times.
The way our elected govt work is like a corporate management whereby profitability $$ is their main objective, not the citizen and their welfare.
They are the main contractors, and every sub out jobs, it must bring in profit, and these profit increase yearly with new targets or KPIs, once the head of the govt set the targets,
Have set targets, the ministers will work on it, bring in as much investment as possible, to the extend of allowing investors to bring in their own peoples, get cheap workers that set an imaginery minimum wage which in this world, is the lowest in term of comparative advantage of cost of living vs earning power.
So, do you want a govt that is designed and care for $$ and its economy, or do you want a govt that is designed to care for it citizens, providing adequate income that can sustain their livinghood and at the same time, inclusively, provide them a family bearing enviroment that can sustain in the years to come.

I see many fierce debate on Government in many many forums. Not one compare to all our dearest TU here pouring out from their heart and soul.
Government make me jobless 13years ago, I'm a civil servant. Am I deserve that?
To a layman like me, (not discriminating myself, is facts) life is all about surviving, with holding only O level those time and living in a fast pace society, I struggle to make a better living for myself. Should say, we have the worst hit.
A lot of turning point for me during this 13 years, which I think, to be fair, this Government did help me a lot in one way or another.
Do not wish to elaborate on that, too long a stories...hahaha
Anyway, never had the intention to discriminate anyone among TU. As long we are holding the steering, paying the rental, is equal status. But (whether you agree or not), Taxi Driving is still meant for layman like me, regardless of age...
Thanks Bro bowah for giving me another good lesson (or lecture), it always feel great when someone could express certain things much better than me.
And for anyone who wish to learn something important, do read starting from page 1...hahaha

If u are a master's , phd or watever atas degree , your talents are seriously being wasted on taxi driving.
Those who glorifies taxi driving being honest, wat down to earth blah blah blah are juz consoling themselves.
Nothing can be as miserable as taxi driving esp if u are highly educated , used to living a high life.
Just out of curiousity , degree holders , have u guys attended any of your uni reunion? :D

pass down any knowledge to the next gen n juz left like tat.
suprisingly they did call me back 2 yrs ago to rejoin with a nice
bonus n promotion. knoe wat i told them?? knn lar im sleeping now

The answer is yes, but need to change vocation, and guess what, Rifleman or MT Spec, they are offering me. With a bit of pride and ego, I rejected them outright.
Come to think about it, it might not be too bad if I would accept their offer that time...lol

My personal opinion: I am a MBA holder. I can understand and concur with both Bro onewaytransfer and Bro BCL point of views. Take a scenario, If we are a successful own boss or a Cxx in a highly recognised company, then likely we will comment that we based on our capability not certificate to be successful. Even senior manager (with MBA), their basic salary also tagged with MBA market value. So why am I driving taxi? Because I was first to go when come to retrenchment. I had been in the top and bottom of my career. But what can I do? I still need to put food on the table everyday. I need to pay water and electricity bill.... and HDB instalment... etc. Sometimes during driving I will start to reflect why am I driving taxis after studied so hard for a MBA and was a AVP before. Then will start to feel demoralised and regretted with negative thinking. It is really miserable for a ex-high-flyer to drive a taxi. To think it positively it is taxi driving that help me bring food home for the past few months. I appreciate taxi-driving because it keep me afloat when I am at the bottom of my career. Thru tax-driving, I see and learn the dark-sided of human beings (pax) which I never visualise before in my corporate world other than office politics. I had improved in my defensive driving, thanks to our hungry drivers' driving behaviour and many "ninjas"(jaywalker wearing black) running across the road from nowhere at night. I am still looking for a suitable job because I need CPF to pay for my HDB loan and medisave for my parents/family. Meanwhile I hang on to taxi-driving and appreciate every single food I bring home everyday.

I once had a Set-up Man who strike 4D every month.
So, if I follow what he buy, then I will also strike.
He was willing to share his good luck with me, so everyweek (last time 4D only Sat/Sun) he told me his numbers.
One Week, Two Week, Three Week pass by.
Fourth Week. Surely will kena, since he kena every month. But dont have leh.
Monday morning, he comes to work looking sad. I ask him what happened.
He says he kena 4D. I said "No leh, Number no open".
He says his mother bought some numbers for him.
LOL.

I had a friend, don't gamble, don't drink, don't do a lots of nonsense....
Than one day, his mother told him to buy a set of 4D number, without knowing how to buy, he blur blur proceed to ask the counter lady.
"How much you want to buy for this number?" don't know what he mean, he call back to his mother to ask...
His mother told him, "Li hu duo juai tio puay duo juai" (You got how much? than buy how much"
So he convey this message to the counter lady, "Got how much? I will buy how much.."
The lady tap tap, "ok 300big, 250small maximum..."
My friend kong kong, use Nets pay the $550 butt.
Of course, go back home, kanna scold by his mother upside down.
And you know what, that day, the number came out 1st prize, you believe? is up to you..
And until today, he still don't know how to bet on 4D...
