Been driving relief for Red for a year on weekends. looks like for 3 past failed jobs , going to OMO is gonna be the road for me.
Well at the age of 33, with a HDB ready end 2012, bills n commitments, guess driving cab aint so bad after all.
Despite no CPF, leave n MC at least free from office politics and all.
Any advice from the experienced bros out there?
Wonder if you do not mind driving casket van, now need peoples, drive taxis very tire, long hours, and somemore got lots of fark up paxs, LTA enforcers, on the road summons and end up with fark up taxi companies, higher and higher fuel prices, more and more competitives, no life and after hours of working, look no different from a zombie.
Casket driving, one day two trips only, close at 3pm, wash and clean and park at allocated lots, paid $60 per day, tips from deceased family not included, free foods and drinks. All fuel pay by company, many night operation job, $50 to $80 per trip disposal, per trip meaning pick up and sent to destinated place. Night supervisor will arrange the trips for you, most 1 to 2 trip extra income, sometime, 4 to 5 trips on high seasons.
High season meaning more people died, huat for us
Well need to consider. Never thot of driving casket van. I only have class 3 ok? So its a night job. but arent u driving cab? as well.
I super relief only, mostly fri, sat and sun, cos those day, mortuary close, unless you want to do the sending off with mobile escort which I also do when got no super relief job.
Class 3 can mah, but be prepare to become the lowest grade in your life, taxis already consider low by some, imagine casket driver, not even recognised in the society, like my relatives and some proud friends alway look down on me, knn, drive casket van talk so much, some peoples do not like to get near me once they know I drive casket, cos these farker damn pan dan mah, sway to them.
Unless your family or whatever relatives do not mind, you can consider. Actually there are many thing to drive, not just taxis. Water taxis also need singaporeans
Well its a honest job and decent living. well i guess more lean towards cab driving. i also super relief on weekends. need to get the weekday tactic right.
OMO it seems for me. well i guess its temporary for now, as i am job searching. sighs.
Hopefully feng shui n fortune will change for me soon.
Wish you good luck brother, life is like stock market and economy, up and down one lah. Just learn that when you are up, learn to look down and help others, and when you are down, alway look up.
Thanks bowah and pool and rest of the kakis here. always an inspiration. guess time to do some soulsearch n not wallow in self pity
well i guess if u don't mind the long, working hours in a taxi, not to mention irregular meals and no social life, than u can consider OMO!u wll also look like a zombie!
Driving a taxi is never gonna be a career in Singapore,it is just another job like a 散工 that pay daily. We can"t ever own a taxi in Singapore and we are talking about career as a Cabby?...Phui X 999 times to LTA & Comfort
At least as a casket van driver, you can aspire to own a casket company in Sin Ming Drive in future if you are hardworking & willing to learn. As a hawker also good, you can franchise your brand if you make good food.IMHO,this is what i call career.
No wonder most TD drives like F1 driver.

You are still very young, try your best to avoid taxi driving as your full time job. Being a relief driving taxi is quite fun, but when come to full time......
especially at your age.
i juz cannot imagine some of u guys think taxi driving is a career. Frankly its going to be the start of your nitemare.
Newbies , when u start , u wont stop. And when u wont stop , u rot.
Your mind slows down , your body gets weak, the world moves ahead but YOU especially the night shifters.
u call that a career? 3 years u are in this trade and if u still dont get out , you are FARKED.
Dont think of it as a career pls , makes me wanna laugh :D
Cash Lee and Bo Call Liao summarises it very well.
I console myself by saying I work in an air-con environment with my own 'desk' and seat and I get to travels albeit only in Singapore.
Do take this as an interim job but be on a look-out for a permanent career. Because being a TD is the lowest and also the highest, there's no junior td and there's no senior tds. Years down the road, your income will still be the same.
It's really a job for old man, retirees who have no more commitments other than pocket money.

Bowah, can fill me in on the casket driver thing, I might be interested. Please pm me. Thanks.
I do believe in taxi driving being a career.
A career is defined as a progress through life or occupation. Though taxi drivers might not be the most lucrative occupation compared to other industries, it offers a person flexibility in working hours and personal development in certain areas. Quick thinking, communicating with strangers, patience...and the list goes on. To clarify these attributes can be honed through working in other jobs as well, but thats beside the point.
Ultimately one must find meaning and joy in his work in order to enjoy a fufilling career. Work your sums for your monthly expenditure and follow your heart. Does it make you happy even if you are holding the highest office in your organisation or being a taxi driver?
Our average life expectancy is 79.3 years for male singaporeans and we can only live once in life.
Bowah I am also interested . Care to Pm me the job details. Maybe I can do this as my next career . Got to speak to OO.
At 33 wanna drive full time taxi? I am really worried for you.
A job with cpf is, I feel, still your best option. Got forced savings to pay for your hdb or medical bills, even when sick, not working or if unlucky get warded because of injury or illness.
Still can continue to be a part time TD is you need extra income or in-between jobs.
First you had to go through BTT.(basic taxi training) This course might last you 1 to 2 years.
Than after passing out, you might post to TNCO.(Taxi non commissional officer) you will lead by example, and with pride you lead.
Some top 5% will post to TOCS.(Taxi officer cadet school) where you will hold very key appointment, driving a white and act like big shot.
And if you are really good, you might be awarded Taxi President Scholarship, this one jia beh liao, You know the Elite? All inside here, bo 政府 type. We got a few next door.
Sound familiar? Like some organization? If you can understand, this are the career you are looking for, welcome to Taxi Uncle Pte Ltd.
