Call for more transparency on taxi fare calculations

SINGAPORE: One cent coin is no longer in circulation and most goods and services are charged in whole figures to reduce the hassle of consumers not having enough loose change for payment.
But that has not been the case when it comes to cab fares and some passengers are calling for more transparency.
That's because taxi companies in Singapore differ in their guidelines on fare calculations.
Comfort DelGro has automatically programmed its cab meters to round down the fare to the nearest five cents.
While SMRT encourages its drivers to collect the full fare by accepting cashless payments.
Some passengers Channel NewsAsia spoke to said they've encountered instances when their fare was rounded up to the nearest ten cents.
But most cab drivers said they charge a few cents lower than the actual amount to avoid disputes with passengers.

enough said remove 10 % from 35% then transfer to the 20 cents then becomes 22 cents. Why not make it 25 cents or 30 cents in the first place? That guy from Comfuk really deserve a smack in the face. Phui .

not well thought out fare hike system...people on the ground are laughing the top... anyone can say to up this and up that....but it has to make cow sense in its delivery and implementation.... yet again an ivory-towered-and-high-paid idea with a backfire smack...

Any bros saw the evening news? 1 transcab driver very funny, he said if 4cent he round down. But if 6cent he round up. Like that can meh??? Where got people round up one? Bros, normally what will u do?

Errm , isn't that the logical way? < 5, go back down to 0, > 5 go to nearest ten.

If i'm the pax, eg, why must pay more??? This is human. And round up, is consider charge more??? I dunno cos I not driving yet. Just my view.

I always run DOWN to the nearest 10 cents, sometimes to the nearest dollar.(depends on my mood la.)
Some people really petty, like that day from airport, $29.85, look big business type and stay in condo somemore, still expecting to get his change. I give him his 15 cents back. Now I stock up lots of 5 cts specially for these people.
Still prefer to take cashless, at least I get my every cents worth, no "lugi"

i always give discounts what's ten cents or even 30 cents,u can't even buy a cup of coffee,now Kopitiam increase a cup of coffee to $1.40 anybody complain?

I would say the 22 cents is the best trick that 'they' have ever thought of !!!
1st 'they' created a 'problem' to solve problem
then make TDs and pax frustrated
Solutions to these ? round up to 25cents solve all issues everyone happy
Nobody will complain this time

If you guys notice, the basic fare jumps by 22cents
but the surcharge jumps ending with 5 cents , no 1 cents 2 cents or 3 cents

Actually he never do anything wrong,but,
Usually there is something worong.
Why?
In school we learn that if more than 0.5, we round up; and less than 0.5, we round down. So 13.47=>13.50 Nothing wrong what !! and 13.44=>13.40, right?
But in the real world, the maths we learn in school no longer apply because people are petty, and kiasu. Everything can only round down !! 13.47=>13.40 and 13.44=>13.40
If round up, got chance go drink coffe at LTA. Heard from LTA Instructor that now you have to buy your own coffee.
But anyway, it is good customer service to round down, if not, then collect the exact amount.

my understanding from lta
lta require all taxi company their taxi meter to be program to round down when you press the stop meter. so i am not sure why there is round up type on the road

such policies only make things difficult for people....already a stressful country beset with many unsettled issues.... now over cents..... what on earth are they doing?
