Most taxi drivers only care about money.
They want the most money with the least amount of time and effort.

There is a difference between exploiting and working.
Everyday I see taxi drivers discussing on how to squeeze afew more dollars from the passenger sickens me.
Do taxi drivers need to stoop to such levels?

Many years back, I bought a writing table in Batam. Cannot fit in the car, so the shop owner says he deliver, just give driver some tips.
We went back and strained our eyes for a small truck. Then we saw a motorbike with a huge box on his pillion. Wahlan, it is our table. He goyang goyang, can still reach our place which is more than 5 km away.
Motorbike boot space is only limited by your imagination.

I believe how TD behave is through many years of conditioning by passengers. Look at the Pro and Cons.
Pros. Guarantee LTA will not catch you (no commendations), make PAX Happy (no commendations or financial rewards)
Cons. Damage your vehicle (get into trouble with Taxi company), If goods damage, may have to pay, damage your back if goods is bulky and out of proportions,
The situation is very bias towards losing money. You mean Beta will do "losing money business"?
But there are still some of us who will do it. Bless those kind TD souls so that the situation will not back fire on them.
But frankly, the lady should have made arrangements for home delivery. I would have done that. Would you?
This type of cheapo are real funny, delivery at expo it product is only $20 all over singapore, just paid extra $20, then go take MRT swee swee go home.
Tomorrow or the day after, they will deliver to your house, no need to carry, somemore people will set up for you. Taxi is meant to ferry peoples and some of their bags, not delivery truck.
Even if really want to take cab with a 42 inch LCDTV, at least tell the uncle you are willing to paid him more. Nothing is free in this world, especially so in singapore.
You see Ikea, more worst than a 42 inch tv also have, knn, people there are like moving whole ikea to their house, this buy, that also buy, knn, kenna one ang mo, so many things, from shelves to plants to toilet cover, shit! no wonder alway long Q
got $2 surcharge ...
help lor since if u want to queue in Expo
if back bonnet too small, then squeeze into back seat
if without bulky things, do u think they want to take taxi
got MRT there...
so TDs if you want to queue in Expo, Ikea etc
do expect to ferry bulky stuff...
OBK days coming....still so choosy ???

who on earth work for free? anyone out that working of course work for money whether is it driving taxi, waiter, gerenal manager, or even our minister, if our pm work for free, maybe i also can consider, but first must be able to draw 3million plus salary for few years than i would do so
if you ask ikea send to your home? unless stated price include delivery, you think your request to delivery is free when you make request??????????????
Can go airport mah, $3 surcharge. OBK also must drive smart, go Ikea and expo carry cargo?? more OBK

Taxi is supposed to be a service industry, part of the hospitality industry and you money mongering whores are giving the industry a bad name.
Right nobody works for free.
Should tell that to the guy from the temple who helped another taxi driver chase a fare cheat.
I think helping a lady to load and unload bulky items is also an issue unless money is used to grease the gears.
Money works wonder for taxi drivers.

maybe beta should do what other do. take a lorry/van to expo or ikea put up sign free delivery , like the young boy who goes orchard in the night recently, make some headline news, maybe expo/ikea etc will specially make a special Q for him

There is a difference when delivery is stated before conclusion of the contract (or purchase at the POS) and something which is not stated.
If something is not stated, it's up to the taxi driver to help, but most taxi drivers are so despo for money, it's not within their morality to help.
That's why I don't think very highly of taxi drivers.

It's not how you put it.
It's more like if I work in IKEA, somebody request that I help him carry his purchases to the car park because he has problems. I would, because I don't incur any additional cost helping out somebody.
But taxi drivers, won't even lift a finger to help a lady in distress if no money is attached to it as a carrot.
That's the difference between taxi drivers and other folks.
When you make comparisons you have to be fair, not make comparisons between extremes.
Little wonder you ended up as a taxi driver.

I do encounter some TD who are like that:
recently just drop a pax at Tan Tock Seng Hospital at the taxi stand and there is a cab in front of me and 3 person, one in wheelchair waiting at the queue.
One of them approached me and ask if I can fetch them to Toa Payoh Lor 4 and I said ok. I ask how come the cab in front dun take them and she just shrugged it off.
Worst still, this guy refused to move off and the lady got problem pushing the wheelchair down as the cab is occupying the slope side.
I got to help her lift the wheelchair down gentlely.
I told her this my first time handling such pax so I might not know how to move him, but she said no worry, he can get up the cab himself.
Forgot to take a pic of that knn cab.
I got my fair share of IKEA pax too, with 3 long carpet roll that needs me to bring down the front seat.
No big deal, all in a day's job.
Never once had I left my pax to put or retrieve things from the booth. Always make it a point to come out, out of courtesy.
The very first pax in my life, more unforgetable. Just got my merc cab from my hirer the first day and just drive around in my neighbourhood getting a feel of it. One granny stop me and I thought "cool! my first pax"
She told me she is a garong guni collector and her trolley wheel just broke, cannot move. She ask if I can give her a lift to her block, somewhere nearby. I thought, so old and still collecting, just help la,
Then she led me to so many cardboard boxes and old newsapaper, enought to feel the whole booth and back seat. She even expect me to help her carry there and load it and upon reaching, help her carry all of them to her lift lobby.
But all the time, she keep on saying thanks and "ah ma back no good, cannot carry".
How's that for the first pax, great memory right?
come to think of it, Berd, u seems very anti-taxi driver right?
from the wording coming from you, every one of it seems like stabbing ou heart mercilessly.
Must have real bad experience, care to share?
