Chin ups are one exercise that I have been neglecting for a long time. After realising that I have been putting on some weight, I was worried that I would be unable to do chin ups anymore. So last Sunday, I tried 3 sets of 8 reps each. For the next 3 days, not only are my lats and biceps sore, my chest is sore too! Interesting! Didn't know that chin ups work the chest too! Or maybe my chest is too weak, that's why it was sore.
ur chest muscle oso connected to ur arm muscles at some part, so naturally it'll feel sore also
the pain shd go away in a few days, if it doesent pls consult a doctor.
its only standard procedure you shd see a doctor when something feels wrong
I see. I had the same issue and the soreness did go away after 3 days and I'm actually feeling good about it! Lolz.
I can't comment on the chest part
all I can say is, chin ups and parallel bar dips are the best ways to train your upper body
perhaps even better than bench press or any other compound exercises
Yes Eagle,
I totally agree with you on that one.
From what I found out, the muscle stimulating effect of exercises are usually rated by several factors:
Apparently, the best exercises are compound ones, involve free weights and requires the body to move through space. i.e. chin-ups, parallel-bar dips, squats, deadlifts.
The second best group of exercises will probably involve compound ones, free weights, but does not require the body to move through space, i.e. bench press, shoulder press.
Next would still be compound exercises, but those that use machines, i.e. bench press machine, leg extension machine.
Finally, the last one group includes the isolation types.
However, I guess bench press is still considered a core component of any bodybuilding training regime together with a squat and a row because it is one of the few exercises that can totally target your chest.
what do u mean by move through space?

i think it means ur whole body moving lo..
u do pull up that time is move ur body = move through space lo..
if u bench press, u lying down wat.. so just moving arms.. not moving body..
space = empty space..
Yes purpledragon84 is right. Moving through space means your body moving in action. At first when I read about this, the words seem funny to me also. But that's what they meant.
Because of this "body moving through space" factor that increases the muscle stimulation effect, certain exercises are deemed better than others even when both set of exercises work almost the same set of muscles.
Example: Being able to pull 140 lbs on the lats pull down machine 10 reps does not mean you will definitely be able to do 10 chin-ups (assuming you weight 140 lbs).
Oh man! Now I realised that not only the chest muscles are used. My abs hurt too! Maybe I exerted too much on the last failure rep.
