*Grassroots activities across S'pore promote racial harmony*
SINGAPORE: Several grassroots activities are being held over the weekend to promote racial harmony.
Some 1,000 residents in Aljunied on Saturday took part in a mass racial harmony pledge.
As they were treated to songs and dances, they were also reminded by their Member of Parliament not to take Singapore's situation for granted.
Said Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo, "It is a situation which requires us everyday to show tolerance, to give and take, to help one another and to be sensitive to each others feelings."
To foster further understanding, more such events will be held on Sunday, including a walk-a-jog around Bedok Reservoir.
At Fengshan Community Club, students tested their knowledge of various cultures and customs in Singapore to promote greater understanding of each other.
The organisers, the People's Association, hope the students will learn more about the different races in the country.
The Racial Harmony Day events are in their sixth year and are held every July.
