I don't think he was atheist though it appears he don't give crap for religion.
Perhaps based on the God song he wrote, he believed in love, running around lush gardens stark nekkid, tossing flowers in the air and hugging trees.

No country, no religion.... no individualistic and hence no completion, hence lay back society and little or slow advancement. It is hard for the human race to move forward when working as one toward nothing, esp the lack of objective or motivation.
