God and deities were indeed aliens from a highly advanced civilization but not from the 10th planet in our solar system.
What happened was a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away, there was a Galactic Empire ruled by an Evil Emperor. Although this Emperor was very intelligent and manipulative, a rebellion sprung up that eventually led to his downfall. In the aftermath of the fall of the Empire, a New Republic sprung up. The New Republic faced many challenges but eventually, it led to a new golden age of peace and prosperity throughout the galaxy. Mankind once again sprung out to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.
Eventually they came to Earth. However, they had a Prime Directive that kept them from interfering with our young civilization. A few bad apples violated the prime directive that led to our stories of gods.
