one question just popped up in my mind, i would like to ask: for an atheist, how is their funeral held?? cos i have been to taoist, buddhist and christian funeral and there are chanting, hymns and such.
how abt atheist?
just a question in my mind, nothing else.

In my opinion, funerals are for the living.
When I die, I don't really care what happens to my body. Personally, I would just want to be cremated and my ashes thrown into the sea. This is not because I have any affinity for the sea. It's just that I think it's the most considerate approach.
If my ashes are kept, there's a tendency to want to pay the ashes respect. I actually wouldn't mind if my ashes are just disposed off in the garbage or something - but I realised that my loved ones may be uncomfortable with the idea. So getting them tossed in the sea is a compromise of sorts.
I don't want a fancy coffin or any rites. I'm dead after all. If you want to hold a fancy funeral for me, don't waste money on a coffin - it's going to get burned anyway.
As I said before, funerals are for the living. It pleases me to think my friends and loved ones might get together to celebrate life. Not to say goodbye to me... they should have said that while I was still alive. Nowadays, we are so busy that we meet usually only at weddings and funerals. It would please me if my funeral could be used as an excuse for my friends and loved ones to get together. -

this question differs for different atheist....
personally, i may tell my family dun waste time and money.
just burn it or bury it without anything....
or just freeze it.. in case future people can ressurect it.. but that is costly.. -
i prefer to be burned.. it is said if you die but never burn, u might ended up being a spirit walking (learned from Supernatural)

Oh. That's not a problem for me as I do not believe in the supernatural.
