Some would argue that it's not possible to corrupt religion. This is if you hold a relativistic 'tolerant' view and feel that all viewpoints are equally valid. You can't say religion is being parodied or corrupted because you have to accept the person's viewpoint is just as valid as yours. Which brings up the problem of "if everyone is his own pope, what good is religion?" The purpose of the scientific method is to make observations that everyone can agree on.
The problem with religion is that there is no evidence that everyone can agree on so you need an authority figure to tell you how to interpret things or to resolve conflicts. Which then brings you to the other problem. Who is the correct authority figure? -

I was referring to a paddle that you would use to spank your own head until it stops hurting. In my opinion, a soft plastic paddle for a low low price of $4.99 at a Watsons near you, is the preferred solution.
