With glass is already safe enough..need shades for what? Really don't understand CAAS..should really go ask my father's boss about this..since my father's boss is chairman of CAAS..Originally posted by ^tamago^:It is apparently a security measure since it was previously clear but they chose to set up these shades at T2 viewing mall and then now T3. So yo mean T3's viewing mall glass pannel is obstruct again ?Originally posted by Ferrari_RoXz:I bet that if one of us would write to the Straits Times forums and this problem were to be published on The Straits Times, the CAAS people would give crap explanations like:
- The shades are there to cool the buidling and what crap.
My view: Could you guys just build a seperate section for viewing only? The best option is to have both indoors and outdoors to suit all preference.
And for goodness sake, if you want to build a ' view-able' viewing mall, the PLEASE get rid of all those shades. Thanks but we do not appreciate the shades. If CAAS is so worried of the transit people, then just build a seprate section! Just like those in Japan! World class airport eh? Not with flaws like this.
- We closed the T1 west section as there is a risk of security threat.
My view: What security threat? People gonna throw bombs through the glass? Or are people going to use sledge hammer to "Break Glass In Case Of Emergency"?
It's kinda ironic when the govt is trying so hard to secure the airport's perimeters but do not provide a good viewing mall to give people a good alternative place to watch planes. With this terrible view, people would just go back to the airport perimeters.
If there would be a T4? The viewing mall would be made of 90% tinted windows and it will face a grass patch.
How bout our durian?Originally posted by Ferrari_RoXz:Let's all barge into CAAS office and lodge a protest! Singaporeans must stand up agaisnt bad design!
Agree !!! If they so scared they can send more soldier to patrol the viewing mall too.Originally posted by Ferrari_RoXz:Now, whats so dangerous of having a clear viewing glass? Its not as if Osama would come hear and use sniper gun to aim at some bushes?
T3's viewing mall is very similar to T2's. It has double glass panel. With the gap below overlooking the transit area. Though T2 has some shades, but not to the extent of T3 - which has shades praticaly centimeters apart!Originally posted by Unidentified:So yo mean T3's viewing mall glass pannel is obstruct again ?
T1 is see the parking there T2 is double glass pannel , and T3 by shade ?
The viewing mall is facing the aircraft parking zone or runway
How badly is it block by the shade ? Got pics ?
If it really bad then im not going there to dissapoint myself
My overall motive to go T3 is the viewing mall only
Durain nothing to see mah. You want to see just go outside and see. But you can't go onto the tarmac in the airport can you? See, this what seprates good design from bad ones!Originally posted by vIn.Warrior:How bout our durian?
Sorry, my father's boss recently very busy..no time to reopen T1's viewing mall..Originally posted by Ferrari_RoXz:T3's viewing mall is very similar to T2's. It has double glass panel. Pictures are on Page 1 (near the bottom)
The viewing zone is very good. It has one of the best loacations in Changi but it is spoilted by the bad design. It over looks the parking area / tarmac / apron, Runway 02L/20R touchdown zone (which means the location planes land where the tyres will puff smoke)
If you want to go T3. Go NOW! During the open house, the transit mall is open to the public for $1 (without guided tour) or $3 (with guided tour) I would prefer the $1 option as guide tour is totaly uncalled for (who needs guided tours in a signboard filled airport?) In the transit mall, there is a unrestricted view of the runway/parking areas. There are some chairs provied also, so you could camp there the whole day! Depending on the wind, you could see planes taking off or landing at Runway 02L/20R.
If i were to choose a viewing mall, T1 would be my first choice as there is unblocked view of the aprons (though T1's location is the worst of the 3)
If CAAS would just reopen the old viewing mall (where the old sweensens is), then it would be great!
Hmmm? Not the whole of T1 viewing mall. Part of it still open mahOriginally posted by ^tamago^:It is apparently a security measure since it was previously clear but they chose to set up these shades at T2 viewing mall and then now T3. As i have mentioned in my previous post, the viewing mall vantage point is very good, you can see Runway, Taxiway, Parking Areas. For planes landing at Runway 02L, you can see the touchdone zone where the plane lands and tyres will puff out smoke and trust reversers will be activated.Originally posted by Unidentified:wah !!! wat a turn off , this is the area why im looking for T3
wat a dissapointment , and is a plane parking again ?
The runway got take off or landing in action ? or just a path from runway to the parking lots ?
When the open house ends ? maybe go this weekend
What thing is a waste of money? The Terminal 3 or the $1/$3 to enter the transit mall?Originally posted by browniebaobao:wat a waste of money.![]()

agree. T1 & T2 used to have wonderful viewing galleries but not now. At least T1 still remain a small section of a wonderful viewing gallery, but no longer for T2. and i really missed the T1 section that used to have Swensens and overseeing the taxiway and runway!Originally posted by ^tamago^:It is apparently a security measure since it was previously clear but they chose to set up these shades at T2 viewing mall and then now T3.
