I went to T3 today..**WARNING: PICS INTENSIVE**

It is apparently a security measure since it was previously clear but they chose to set up these shades at T2 viewing mall and then now T3. They even went as far as closing down the whole T1 viewing mall and Swensen's!

Now, whats so dangerous of having a clear viewing glass? Its not as if Osama would come hear and use sniper gun to aim at some bushes?

With glass is already safe enough..need shades for what? I bet that if one of us would write to the Straits Times forums and this problem were to be published on The Straits Times, the CAAS people would give crap explanations like:
- The shades are there to cool the buidling and what crap.
My view: Could you guys just build a seperate section for viewing only? The best option is to have both indoors and outdoors to suit all preference.
And for goodness sake, if you want to build a ' view-able' viewing mall, the PLEASE get rid of all those shades. Thanks but we do not appreciate the shades. If CAAS is so worried of the transit people, then just build a seprate section! Just like those in Japan! World class airport eh? Not with flaws like this.

My view: What security threat? People gonna throw bombs through the glass? Or are people going to use sledge hammer to "Break Glass In Case Of Emergency"?
It's kinda ironic when the govt is trying so hard to secure the airport's perimeters but do not provide a good viewing mall to give people a good alternative place to watch planes. With this terrible view, people would just go back to the airport perimeters.
If there would be a T4? The viewing mall would be made of 90% tinted windows and it will face a grass patch. -

Viewing aircraft also scared terror , then why dont the whole airport made of metal , wood , or plastic instead of building glass pannel
They might as well say glass pannel at departure and arrival zone is dangerous , terror might record video of inside or they break glass and sneak in

T3's viewing mall is very similar to T2's. It has double glass panel. With the gap below overlooking the transit area. The viewing zone is very good. It has one of the best loacations in Changi but it is spoilted by the bad design. It over looks the parking area / tarmac / apron, Runway 02L/20R touchdown zone (which means the location planes land where the tyres will puff smoke)
If you want to go T3. Go NOW! During the open house, the transit mall is open to the public for $1 (without guided tour) or $3 (with guided tour) I would prefer the $1 option as guide tour is totaly uncalled for (who needs guided tours in a signboard filled airport?) In the transit mall, there is a unrestricted view of the runway/parking areas. There are some chairs provied also, so you could camp there the whole day! Depending on the wind, you could see planes taking off or landing at Runway 02L/20R.
If i were to choose a viewing mall, T1 would be my first choice as there is unblocked view of the aprons (though T1's location is the worst of the 3)
If CAAS would just reopen the old viewing mall (where the old sweensens is), then it would be great! -

Okok..kidding..Pay $1 go into transit mall also good..can sample the by-now famous $850 chairs.. -
Too bad the $1 deal is only up to 12 Dec. Come Jan 9, those not going overseas would have to live with the crap design of the viewing mall. I would rather go changi beach if they would not do anything to change it.
The least they could do is to open the T1 west section. That place has fantastic views (unobstructed of course!). It brings back old memories of how my parents brought me there to watch planes and play at the playground there!
CAAS only know how to destroy things.
And yes, the $850 chairs? My god. I tried them today, and i would prefer my sub $100 chair that i am seating right now! The chairs are normal, you would get them on buses or mcdonal's cushion seats which i believe cost much less but is durable and cheaper. If they would just spend the saved money buying cheaper chairs and build a better viewing mall for T3 (but not necsecarily more expensive), then i would very well make T3 my thrid home (after Home Sweet Home and School).
Even MM Lee Kuan Yew has doubts about the $850 chairs. Buck up CAAS!
The cheapest option is to build an open air viewing mall. It saves on loads of things! No need to build roof, no need build glass, no need clean glass (just look at how dirty T2's glass is!), no need install crap sunshades, no need pay Aircon bills. = Save $$$$$ !! Use the money to reduce airport tax! Then Changi will become the truly world class airport that it always aspires!
Sometimes, the govt want to be so high tech that they forgot the more pratical and cheaper options. Sad but true! - Sigh

As i have mentioned in my previous post, the viewing mall vantage point is very good, you can see Runway, Taxiway, Parking Areas. If they were to get rid of the disgusting sight of those sunshades, the view would be great.
The open house ends at 12 Dec 2007. You have to pay $1 at least to enter the transit area (airside) The transit area has the best view, no sunshades whatsoever!
The public areas (including the sucky viewing mall and the check in counters area) is free though. Don't miss the chance to catch a fantastic view in the transit area. After 12 Dec, the only way you are getting in is either you are travelling thorugh T3 or working there. -

agree. T1 & T2 used to have wonderful viewing galleries but not now. besides anti-terror security concerns, i believe they removed the viewing gallery because a lot of students went there and sit everywhere on the floor to sleep or study in the past; esp the old T2 viewing gallery.
