Concorde flew in SG for a short period. > for the super rich back then, maybe just a kiddo then.
Would be interesting to know who actually taken those plane rides.
is it true that concorde ceased operation also because of its noise pollution?Originally posted by megatron:one interesting was the concorde was painted SIA livery on one side n British Airways on the other.
PLA ceased commercial airlines operations when Changi Aiport became the national airport in 1981.
i don't think one can go that fast and be quiet at the same timeOriginally posted by dennoc:is it true that concorde ceased operation also because of its noise pollution?

Last flight was some 3 years back
A normal subsonic service took around 7-8 hours to fly from London to New York, but Concorde's did it in an average of 3.5hoursOriginally posted by mhcampboy:with concorde... from sg to london how long?
megatron, your memory certainly serves you well!Originally posted by megatron:I wish it was that FAST!
3-4 hours is normally the flight time a concorde will take from New York to London, flying between FL550 to FL600 at Mach2.02. The fastest time clocked by a concorde is 2hr 53 if I remembered.
SIN-LHR will take approximately 9hours plus depending on wind factors & the temperature at cruising altitude.
a B744 flight time is around 14hrs flying at Mach 0.86.
SIA/BAW flew the thrice weekly service between SIN to LHR via BAH .which was around 1977 to 1981. shortly after which Changi Airport was commissioned & PLA relinguished to RSAF.
The reasons which the service was cancelled was many & varied ,but mainly noise and poor load factors which did not recover the extremely high operating costs.
It only seats 100 pax,no cargo.
Please correct me if I'm wrong as all this is from my old brain cell memories .
oh, btw, the concorde body expands between 6 to 8 inches at max cruising speed.
Suddenly u can see n put ur flat palm between panels which u normally cannot on e ground. Same for the SR-71. It expands 12inches.!!
