I caught the show last year. This was on hell of a story where the engines got flamed out by the volcanic ash.
Luckily they re ignited and the plane managed to land safely. Not to say in wad colour though. -

There is a method, called RE-LIGHTING that we learn to dislodge volcanic ash from the engines..but it depends on few factors plus e density & the "stickabilty" of the ash..
Yes, they may be heros n IMHO, they are but credit also goes to loadplanner , btw, it open up a big box on pre-flight qns, oh why why whys?..

oh,,it's very simple. we ,oops ,I mean they ( SIA crew ) simply avoid flying over the volcanic injestion zone. why go through the hassle ,only when your pre-flight did not such a good job & didn't adv u on Volcanic activity.
have you guys ever wondered so many aircraft flew over that area and only Speedbird got caught in the injestion?..hmmmmmm......?
