SQ emergency landing at PEK

A Singapore Airlines 777-200 (9V-SQH) made emergency landing on 24JAN07 when the engine caught fire.
The flight is SQ811 from Beijing to Singapore. The plane returned to Beijing after takeoff. -

oops, my bad.
I meant the broken debris blown out became potential FOD. an order was given to recover them on the ground for investigation as well as clear the runway.
psssstt...delamination,,HPC,IBC,strut vanes.....
ANYWAY, to set record straight, the SQ PEK incident tdy was due to an Engine Fire Alarm warning & crew acted accordingly to SOP.

The engine fire alarm has been classified as false alarm by the Airline as well as relevant government authorities etc. The aircraft is still being grounded in Beijing as engineers are trying to identify the cause of the false alarm. -

Why don't SIA just buy a few more fire extinguishers to put in their airplanes?
Adam Air also says it will buy planes from Airbus, rather than Boeing, after its recent air crash. -
Personally I feel that Airbus has a higher standard of Safety than Boeing>All The Air Crash Investigations That I saw were on Boeing except for the MD-82. There was this Airbus that lost all its hydraulics when a missile hit it and it landed safely

Aircraft manufacturers build to their highest standards. Accident or not its just something purely accidental or perhaps may be some maintenance issues.
But u need to remember, all this are all leading edge technologies. wadever is used need time to be perfected. -

I do not know how the system is set up on the current generation of airliners (and perhaps megatron can chime in on this), but the 737-100 that my dad used to fly had two pressurized Freon bottles located in the wheel well that could discharge their contents into either engine or the APU. On the flight deck, there were three red fire handles (one for each engine and one for the APU) atop the instrument panel just behind the throttle quadrant. Pulling the handle armed the system; rotating the handle counterclockwise discharged the first CO2 bottle into the selected engine or APU, and rotating it clockwise discharged the second bottle.
