  Don't trust these Indonesian airlines. Look at Lion Airlines not long ago, MD-83 skidded off the runway, Mandala's B737-200 took off then crashed and now this ! I hope the Indonesian government banned this airline for good.
  
  Guess what ? Adam air is taking delivery of 30 brand new A320s and Lion Airlines taking delivery of B737-900ERs ! 2 brand new planes. If already their current fleet, they cant maintain properly, don't have to mention about the new planes.

  More importantly, how does our government garuntee our safety by letting this airlines in to singapore?
  
  does anyone knoe the guidelines CAAS has?

  yep the aircraft info can be found also at the link at my original post. U can check up most of the airplanes in the world over there.
  
  Age of an aircraft must not be used to determind its safety, its the maintenance.
  
  There are also rumours that the plane had landed safely in surabaya. however, i am not going to post this link because i think it is way too far fetched for a 737 to disappear for 24hrs and reappear.

  They are backed up by a Indonesia 737-200 spy plane and a NOMAD together with dozens of helicopters.

  its quite weird that the 737 could go missing for that long. Survival chances of any survivors are diminishing every hour they are not located, especially if they force landed in some remote area. maybe UFO's abducted them.

  I seriously hate those rumour spreaders.
  
  I am working in Indonesia now, whenever some big news happens, there is bound to be people who which claim credence and say something public and ended up mess up everything.
  
  This 12 survivors thing is created by one such people.
  
  Actually as of this morning (5 jan), some "credible" source hypothesised that the plane exploded into smithereens that's why no leftoevers found.
  
  They are really the "noise" in the media now.
  
  To make matters worse, Ex-pres megawati should just shut up, she is now campaigning for transparency and criticising the current adminstration on the handling of the crash. SHUT UP!

  Many airlines are not IATA members. In fact SIA wasn't an IATA member for a very long time when IATA focused its operations on ensuring all airlines provide fair competition.
  
  Had SIA join IATA back long ago, our SIA girls will not be a national symbol.
  
  As for CAAS guidelines, I do not recall them having a very stringent requirements that is additional to ICAO's. As far as i know so long the aircraft meets ICAO requirements and does not exceed dB and exhaust limits, they can land.
  
  This is unlike many European and North American aviation authorities who imposes many more stringent rules on top of ICAO ones.
  
  For example, 737-100 without Hushkits are prohibited in North american airspace now.
