  I remember Mah Bow Tan proclaim that time that Singapore will focus all their energies and resources on this project few years ago.

  Now they never even talk about it? Not even talk about goal 2014?

  this is old thread lar. last time got talked and discussed before. singapore will never qualify for the world cup lar. aim for the asian cup instead or the SEA games gold, more realistic than world cup

  govt eat full no shit to shit mah...now the situation is to solve economy problem. Traditionally sports hasnt been our strong point. I believe in genes when it come to sports and sgrean doesnt have that genes.

  Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney, Torres, Kaka all decided not to take up sg citizenship.

   

  So plans to reach the World Cup have been scrapped for now.

  Thought the channel 5 always advertise that S league is one of the top 10 leagues in Asia?

  Top 5 asian teams go to world cup. So all singapore need is to break top 5 league from top 10.

  When they say Top 10, it just means in terms of sponsorship, FA administration etc in the Top 10.

   

  Top 10 in this case does not translate to top 10 in player skills, fan attendence - at least for singapore's case.

  Deco for portugal (born in brazil)

  Eduardo (born in brazil)

  Higuain (born in argentina but gonna play for france)

  N Korea qualified for qfs in 1966 leh lol. not say qualify for world cup finals, but QFS of the world cup mind you. N koreans then is already a powerhouse in Asia.

   

  Singapore, not even the strongest in SE Asia. probably the strongest is thailand. even vietnam is a close second.

  in facat north korea have some history in 1966 world cup. If not for their internal country problem I think they might be able to win the world cup. lol

  Thailand is and probably will be the strongest in SEA for the next few years.

   

  You look at the way they play their football these past few years - improved smooth passing and imaginative tactics largely due to the influences of Peter Reid and other foreign coaches before him.(Bryan Robson taking over soon too - but that's another story)

   

  Coupled with some good individual talents (none foreign by the way), they will dominate their SEA opponents like Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia for the next few years.

  dun you reckon thai are more fitter and more dedicated and disciplined than our players? I think most are from a poor family and football is a way out of poverty there. dun think so in singapore. no one die of hunger in singapore.

  SAFFC knocked out at first group stages lar. they should implement qualifying rounds into the CL proper, so that they dun waste time on a team like SAFFC.

  They did.

   

  SAF qualified for the CL through beating 2 or 3 regional teams.

   

  But standards are still too wide.

  Definitely fitter and more dedicated and passionate.

   

  It's their footballing culture probably similar to that of Brazil.
