Zoltan Harsanyi's agent claims the striker turned down Portsmouth in favour of a move to Bolton.
Slovakian Harsanyi joined The Trotters last week from FC Senec with Bolton boss Sam Allardyce confident the player is one for the future.
Harsanyi's agent, Jozef Valovic says he accepted the loan deal for the 19-year-old striker rather than wait for Pompey to open negotiations in the transfer window.
"When we went there (Bolton) we already knew about an offer from Portsmouth," admitted Valovic.
"However, I preferred the agreement with Bolton on a half-year long loan rather than waiting until the end of January for a contract from Portsmouth.
"After this season, Bolton will have a say if they want Zoltan on a permanent basis or not."
