Paddy Kenny has decided to step away from international football for the foreseeable future to concentrate on family life.
The Republic of Ireland international has had a troublesome time off the field recently and is keen to focus on his home life.
Kenny was omitted from Ireland's Euro 2008 qualifier against Sam Marino in November, with manager Steve Staunton confirming the keeper's absence was due to personal reasons.
It later emerged that the Sheffield United man was going through marriage problems and he has now decided to concentrate all his spare time on family life.
"As everybody knows, I have been through a troublesome time recently and I want to spend time with my family at every opportunity," said Kenny.
"I have asked to be released from international duty for the time being so I can do that."
Despite leaving Ireland with a shortage of goalkeeping options, Staunton fully supports Kenny's decision.
Staunton added: "Paddy has to put himself and his family first at a time like this and I fully respect his decision."
With Shay Given absent through injury, Barnsley's Nick Colgan or Brighton keeper Wayne Henderson will likely be in goal against San Marino on February 7.
