Franz Beckenbauer claims Michael Ballack made a mistake joining Chelsea - Der Kaiser believes he should have signed for Manchester United instead.
The Bayern Munich president saw Ballack leave his club last summer after the Germany international committed his future to the Premiership champions, despite interest from United.
The move is thought to have made Ballack the highest paid player in world football with wages of around £130,000 per week.
Many Blues supporters would suggest they have yet to see value for money from the signing.
And Ballack's struggles have not gone unnoticed at his former club either, with Beckenbauer believing Ballack made a mistake in opting for Stamford Bridge.
"I cannot see a place for Ballack at Chelsea," Beckenbauer said.
"As you can see, the game mostly passes him by. Frank Lampard is stronger and takes his position.
"He [Ballack] would have been better off at Manchester United."
