Everton have confirmed that Andy Johnson will be back in a matter of weeks.
Johnson was stretched off during Everton's 2-0 win at Wigan, amid fears that he may have broken his ankle.
However, scans have confirmed that there is definitely no break - although there is significant tissue damage, but still the news will be welcomed at Goodison Park.
"Andy had further scans this morning and after an appointment with a consultant afterwards we were able to update our diagnosis," Everton physio Mick Rathbone told the club's website.
"All the evidence suggests that there is no bone injury and that the damage is confined to the soft tissues. Although this can be interpreted as good news, it is still a significant ankle injury.
"I would estimate a recovery period for Andy of a matter of weeks rather than months."
